Gabe McFarland

Gabe McFarland has lived in Colorado for over 35 years and has been litigating cases in state and federal courts since 1995. He brings with him a broad range of legal experience. For many years he has been recognized as one of Colorado's top litigators by being named to Colorado's "Super Lawyers," which recognizes the top 5% of lawyers in the state. His litigation practice is focused on helping businesses and professionals in business-related disputes and assisting victims of personal injury accidents. Gabe continues to manage an active litigation practice at Evans & McFarland, which he founded in 2003. Gabe also has a passion for estate planning and related work (including trust and probate administration, Medicaid planning, and long-term care planning). His litigation background gives him a unique perspective in those areas. Prior to Evans and McFarland, Gabe was a partner at Bieging, Shapiro, & Burrus, LLP. Before that, Gabe worked for The Beatty Law Firm, P.C., where he was responsible for three multi-million dollar patent infringement lawsuits and for environmental and toxic tort litigation throughout the country. During the previous six years, Gabe was associated with the international law firm of McKenna & Cuneo, LLP, where he managed all phases of a sophisticated commercial litigation practice, including the prosecution of a $25 million claim against the U.S. Government. Gabe is a 1995 graduate of the University of Denver, College of Law. During his tenure at the College of Law, Gabe served as an editor of the Transportation Law Journal and spent two years as a teaching assistant for the university's legal research and writing class. Gabe received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1992, graduating magna cum laude. When not working, Gabe enjoys hiking, biking, fishing, and otherwise spending time in Colorado's beautiful backcountry with his wife and three kids. He is also an avid longboard surfer.

Jan Lord

A graduate of the University of Colorado School of Law, Jan has practiced law since 1983. While she has broad legal experience, her passion for helping seniors led her to the practice of elder law. Having watched and assisted with her father's passing in 1998, Jan has the compassion, understanding and the ability to address the hard questions that arise for the elderly. Jan has served the unique legal needs of northern Colorado's seniors for many years. The protection and transfer of wealth can be complicated and difficult, and Jan is dedicated to providing legally sound and practical guidance. As part of her dedication, Jan regularly provides seminars for various groups regarding elder law and estate planning issues. Homegrown, mostly, in northern Colorado, Jan is familiar with the high plains and even higher mountains. A product of Sterling High School, Jan completed her undergraduate education at Colorado College. She and her family have lived in Berthoud since 1998.

Karen has over 30 years of legal experience as a judicial law clerk, attorney, and mentor/speaker to other lawyers. Karen Brady has been designated an Accredited Estate Planner National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. Karen is a Denver estate planning attorney and practices in the areas of , business planning, business succession planning, and business growth counseling as the principal attorney of Brady, McFarland, and Lord, LLC in Arvada, Colorado. Karen's focus on the client's individual goals, hopes, and concerns allows her to assist clients in creating a unique and substantial legacy. Karen is a cum laude graduate of Georgetown University, where she majored in philosophy and government. Karen is also a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. There her favorite class was the clinical program because she was helping real people with real problems. Upon graduation from law school, Karen's excellent scholarship was recognized by membership in the Order of the Coif, an honorary scholastic society for the legal profession. Since law school, Karen has continued her legal education and is now a certified Wealth Strategies Planner as recognized by the Esperti Peterson Wealth Strategies Institute. Karen is also a Master Advisor certified by the Sunbridge Network. Karen has written several publications for Bradford Publishing, including Estate Planning and Taxation in Colorado, and is a contributor to the publications of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors. She is also a frequent guest lecturer for various organizations, including the Mi Casa Resource Center for Women, the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., the Financial Planning Association of Colorado, the Colorado Society of Enrolled Agents, and others. Karen is a member of, and frequent teacher for, the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys. She is a former board member of the Women's Estate Planning Council and a current board member of the Colorado Estate Planning Education Council. She is also a member of the business section and trusts and estate sections of both the American Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association. Karen is also a member of Wealthcounsel, a national organization of estate and business planning attorneys.
