Teck Leng has more than 30 years' experience in the criminal justice field, initially as a judge hearing criminal cases, then as a state prosecutor and since 1997, as defence counsel.
Teck Leng was awarded a Public Service Commission Local Merit Scholarship (Open) to pursue law at the National University of Singapore. In 1991, he joined the Subordinate Courts (now known as State Courts) as a Magistrate, Deputy Registrar, Coroner and Referee Small Claims Tribunal. In 1995, he was appointed District Judge. In 1996, upon his request, he joined the Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) as a Deputy Public Prosecutor and State Counsel to broaden his experience in this field. Upon completing his scholarship bond, Teck Leng moved into private practice in the middle of 1997, specializing in criminal defence work.
