Modernistic Garden and Pet Supply was established in 1961 by Mr. Benjamin Roberts. In 2003, the business was bought by Mr. James Thompson and his family. It has continued to grow over the years with new locations in The John's Plaza on Carmichael Road and The Mall at Marathon on Marathon Road. Most recently in 2019, the flagship store relocated to a newly renovated 5,000 square foot storefront with attached 15,000 square foot warehouse and offices adjacent to The Palmdale Shopping Plaza on Madeira Street.
