Tax Attorney Daniel W. Layton • After graduating from the exalted University of Chicago Law School, Daniel Layton quickly earned a reputation in the courtroom as an IRS trial attorney. He later worked exclusively in federal criminal and civil tax litigation over five years with the U.S. Department of Justice, handling civil and criminal tax trials in the downtown Los Angeles federal prosecutor's office. In addition to founding his own law firm, he has worked as counsel for a Vault 100 national law firm's mergers & acquisitions group. He is privileged to have been selected to serve as Chair of the Orange County Bar Association's Tax Law Section for three terms (2016, 2020, and 2023). Daniel Layton is a California licensed attorney who can represent taxpayers before the IRS, state agencies such as the FTB, and county taxing authorities. He is also admitted to practice in the following courts and jurisdictions: Mr. Layton's Federal District Court and United States Tax Court litigation and trial experience has resulted in at least 30 reported decisions in Tax Court, U.S. District Court, and the Ninth Circuit. Melissa S. Kew

Melissa Kew is a paralegal and has worked for Mr. Layton since the firm was founded. She holds masters degrees from the University of Chicago and the University of Toronto, where she focused on quantitative and qualitative research. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals. Prior to joining the firm, she worked as a researcher at the Center for Nonprofit Management in downtown Los Angeles and at the East Bay AIDS Research Institute in Oakland, CA.
