In 1998, Bales joined the largest healthcare staffing company in the world where he earned the role of Executive Vice President and co-lead the company to a strategic exit in 2007.
After a short sabbatical in 2009, Bales joined longtime friend and colleague, Dr. Jack McCallum, in creating CenseoHealth, LLC, where they developed a sophisticated technology platform for the purposes of performing in-home, Health Risk Assessments utilizing an "all physician", mobile network. Under their leadership the company performed millions of unique home visits in 48 states and Puerto Rico.
Having left his full-time position as President and COO in June of 2016 he remained actively involved with CenseoHealth as a consultant to the Chairman and member of the Board of Directors until December of 2018.
With over 20 years in healthcare staffing, operations and logistics, Bales has a proven track record of creating and growing companies with reputations for world-class service. He was a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2014.
Jack worked as a practicing adult and pediatric neurosurgeon for over twenty-five years, building the premier specialty practice in his area. Prior to founding Resesarch On-Site, he was a founder of Integration Health Management Associates, one of the earliest firms using data driven evaluation of physician performance, and North Texas Specialty Physicians, an independent practice association with its own health plan that markets its data driven quality programs nationally. In 2005, Jack was a founding member of Leprechaun, a company that used claims data to assure proper reimbursement for Medicare Advantage plans. In 2009, Jack founded CenseoHealth, a company that provides in-home health risk assessments for Medicare Advantage plans, performing 500,000 exams annually throughout the United States. Jack is also an author and educator, holding a doctorate in history and a teaching appointment at Texas Christian University (TCU), and he has spoken at numerous events and authored several articles and books. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Georgia Tech, an MD from Emory University, and a PhD in History from TCU.
