Adrian Knoetze

Job Titles:

Adrian graduated from Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria in 2009 after developing an interest in intensive livestock production medicine. He joined a large South African poultry integration as a divisional veterinarian overseeing poultry health within broiler breeders and broilers and advising into slaughter plants. He took additional responsibilities overseeing a diagnostic and food safety laboratory and autogenous vaccine production unit. In 2010 he added a broiler Grandparent supply chain to his list of responsibilities. He completed his MSc in Veterinary virology from the University of Pretoria during this time focusing on infectious bronchitis virus research. In 2014 he was awarded the World Poultry Veterinary Association's ‘Young poultry veterinarian of the year' for his activities in the field including academic, industry and community work. He joined Slate hall Veterinary Services in 2016 and after 6 months at our Cambridge office moved over to the Shrewsbury office taking up a lead clinician role.

Allan Ball

A practical and knowledgeable field veterinarian, Allan graduated from the University of Pretoria in 2003. He worked with Rainbow Farms in South Africa, as Divisional Veterinarian, becoming General Manager of Cobb South Africa, then Veterinary Laboratory Manager in one of their regional laboratories. He was responsible for agricultural management of the operation, gaining unique experience as a poultry veterinarian. In March 2007, Allan transferred to Cobb Europe as veterinarian and quality assurance manager. He joined Slate Hall Veterinary Practice in December 2008 and became company director in September 2020. Allan recently completed a post-graduate certificate in Avian Health with the University of Melbourne.

Andrew Walker

Andrew Walker graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2002, and spent the next three years working with mixed, small animal and exotic practices in the UK, Bolivia and Thailand. He joined the poultry industry in 2005, working for Poultry Health Services in Cambridgeshire developing a deep understanding of the poultry diagnostic laboratory and commercial layer sector. He has an interest in a sustainable approach to food and farming. Andrew joined Slate Hall Veterinary Group in February 2008 and obtained his RCVS Cert PMP in July 2009. Andrew work in all areas of the business and manages the UKAS accredited laboratory. He is also involved in various stakeholder groups across the industry.

Antonio Ricci

Antonio graduated from the Veterinary University of Naples in 2009 and he completed his MSc in Infectious Diseases at the same University in 2010. He moved to UK the same year to work for Eville and Jones and the Food and Standards Agency, carrying out official veterinarian duties at poultry farms and processor plants across the country. He worked for the first Poultry Health Services in 2013 mainly looking after layer breeders in UK, becoming one of the senior vets in 2017. When Poultry Health Services was sold, Antonio became Poultry Specialist for Europe, Africa, Russia and Middle-East at IDEXX, the largest diagnostic company for animals in the World. In this role Antonio supported and trained poultry veterinarians on biosecurity, vaccination and disease monitoring. Antonio joined Slate Hall Veterinary Practice in September 2019.

Damian Holden

Job Titles:

Damian developed an interest in the poultry industry while at vet school at the University of Sydney. After graduating he worked as a pig and poultry vet at various locations throughout Australia, working with broiler and layer farms. Damian was also involved in teaching pig and poultry medicine at Murdoch University vet school. Damian has a particular interest in gut health, antimicrobial stewardship and bird behaviour. Damian started with Slate Hall in 2022 and is based out of the Atcham office. When not working he enjoys hikes with his two dogs, swimming and knitting.

Daniel Parker

Job Titles:

Daniel qualified from the University of Cambridge with a Degree in Veterinary Medicine and a BA in Natural Sciences in 1983. He worked in large animal practice in Buckinghamshire and Somerset then a small animal practice in Hong Kong. On returning to the UK, Daniel joined Intervet UK in a technical role to the Intervet range of poultry vaccines, supporting one of our other principal veterinarians, Peter Cargill then working at Sun Valley. Daniel was responsible for bringing four new poultry vaccines to the UK marketplace during his tenure with Intervet, supervising registration trials for these products. As veterinary consultant to the Cobb Breeding Company, Daniel gained huge experience in broiler breeder and management and is now the main Slate Hall Group internal reference for broiler breeder advice. He has a broad range of experience across all poultry sectors both in the UK and overseas.. He gained the RCVS Certificate in Poultry Medicine and Production in 1997, became a Diplomate of the European College of Poultry Veterinary Surgeons in 2015 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for meritorious contribution to clinical practice in 2017. Daniel has authored and co-authored a number of scientific papers across a broad range of subjects related to poultry production. He is a past president of the BVPA and has served committees within the British Veterinary Association. He is Veterinary Adviser to the British Poultry Council and a previous board member of the Animal Health and Welfare Board for England which provides SHVP with significant insight and influence into high level politics and policy making relevant to the poultry industry.

Jacqueline Duke

After graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2021, Jackie has returned to her Lincolnshire roots: joining Slate Hall's New Graduate programme in September 2021. Jackie enjoys all aspects of avian health but particularly enjoys looking at broiler brooding, layers, and ducks. During her time at the RVC, she conducted research on mental health in livestock farming: a topic on which she continues to be actively interested. Jackie is the practice lead for Investors in the Environment accreditation.

Jean Du Toit

Jean graduated from the veterinary faculty at Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria in 1990. He worked in mixed mainly farm animal practice in Wales, Scotland and South Africa before developing an interest in the poultry industry in 1997. He obtained an honours degree in Poultry Health and Production from Onderstepoort in 2000 while working as a state vet responsible for poultry abattoirs in KZN, South Africa. After a stint as a technical advisor at a large feed mill he took up the position of company veterinarian responsible for broiler health and welfare at Grampian Country Foods based in Edinburgh from 2003-2005. During this time he obtained an MSc in Applied Poultry Production from the Scottish Agricultural College. He then returned to South Africa initially joining a 10 vet poultry consulting practice before branching out with his own consultancy business in 2010. His client base consisted of companies within the broiler production chain from Great Grand Parents, GPs, PS and broiler companies with the focus on providing and monitoring company health plans. In 2019 he returned to the UK to join SHG and is currently based in Hereford.

Jessica Seale

Jessica Seale graduated from the University of Bristol in 2020 having also gained a master's in One Health (Infectious diseases) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the RVC. Her research during her master's was primarily into Cryptosporidium antiprotozoal resistance. After graduating she worked for a year and a half in North Yorkshire as a poultry veterinarian. Here she gained in depth experience with turkey integrators as well as with broiler and free-range layer clients. Jessica joined Slate Hall Veterinary Group in 2022 and covers primarily the East and East Midlands regions.

Joao Osorio

Joao graduated from the University of Lisbon in December 2020, where he developed a passion for avian and fish production medicine. After graduating, he worked for almost 2 years as a fish veterinarian in a R&D Aquaculture company based in Malta. In February 2023 he joined Slate Hall Veterinary Services, where he hopes to evolve as a poultry veterinarian, having particular interest in the fields of pathology, microbiology and epidemiology. Outside work he enjoys spending time in the outdoors and playing sports.

Peter Cargill

Peter O'Kane

Job Titles:
  • Senior Associate Veterinarian / Metheringham
Peter has been involved with poultry production from an early age, spending school holidays working on farms and hatcheries. He graduated from University College Dublin with a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2006 and spent several years in mixed and small animal clinical practice before joining an integrated broiler and turkey production company in Northern Ireland. Peter spent the next seven years in the further study of poultry medicine. He is a graduate of the Master of Avian Medicine from the University of Georgia and became a diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians in 2012. He then moved to the University of Nottingham and completed a PhD researching Campylobacter in broilers. He has published articles in industry and peer-reviewed scientific journals on Campylobacter control and other aspects of poultry medicine and has spoken at international conferences. In 2023 Peter became a diplomate of the European College of Poultry Veterinary Science. Peter joined Slate Hall in 2017, he enjoys all aspects of poultry medicine and training new members of the team. He has an interest in food safety, laboratory investigation of disease and risk management. He is a member of the East Midlands Poultry Discussion Group committee.

Steven Motsamai


Yvonne Taylor

Yvonne joined the Slate Hall team in April 2008 after working for a large pharmaceutical company that manufactures poultry vaccines. She has spent time working in the accounts department getting to grips with invoicing and client accounts and providing PA services to the Partners. In January 2018, Yvonne was promoted to Practice Manager to manage the day to day running of all the Slate Hall sites. This is role includes HR management, insurance, health and safety, maintenance and liaison with CVS.
