In January of 2009, Robert Day, our co-founder and managing partner, decided it was time to walk away from a lucrative 11-year career as a successful commercial banking executive. He had specialized in merchant processing and, more specifically, interchange management and had been honored with the prestigious "President's Leadership Award" just 13 months before. It was a time when life was good and he did not have a care in the world; he was at the top of his game. There was, however, one problem. The economy was collapsing. Gas had just hit over $4.00 a gallon. Bankruptcies and foreclosures were on the rise. Things were bad and getting worse every day, not just for the overall economy, but for his friends that had lost their jobs as companies were going under. It's tough to enjoy your plush life when your friends are suffering. One day, he was sharing with a co-worker about his overall frustration and the growing complexity of merchant processing and how the fees were killing businesses. It was that same co-worker who gets the credit for what came next...the birth of Merchant Relief Council (dba weAudit.com). He told Robert, "You are never going to be happy doing this job. It's just not in you. You need to get on the other side and help merchants." Soon after, Robert went to his boss and said it was time to move on. He went home and told his family, "Get ready for some drastic changes. It's time to go from being part of the problem to becoming part of the solution!"
