Marisa is an experienced employment lawyer and litigator. Prior to starting Sugarman Law, Marisa practiced at the national employment firm Fisher & Phillips and served as a judicial law clerk the Honorable E. Clayton Scofield, III, United States Magistrate for the Northern District of Georgia where she worked almost exclusively on employment matters. She began her legal career in the Labor and Employment Group of Alston & Bird LLP. Marisa graduated from the Florida State University College of Law, cum laude, in 2002 and received her B.A. in English from Agnes Scott College in 1995.
Matt Hawk is a seasoned attorney representing businesses and individuals in employment litigation and counseling, including discrimination, retaliation, and harassment claims of all types, whistleblower litigation, and restrictive covenant disputes. He has extensive experience independently handling all phases of litigation, from pre-suit investigations and charge responses through pleadings, discovery, and trial. Matt also handles a broad range of business and consumer issues, such as partnership disputes, contract negotiation and interpretation, insurance coverage claims, and class action matters. In addition, since joining Sugarman Law shortly after its founding, Matt has become an accomplished fiduciary litigator in cases involving trustees and executors.
Prior to relocating to Atlanta and joining Sugarman Law, LLP, Matt was based in Tallahassee, Florida. There, he worked for more than eleven years on both employment and business matters across Florida and southwestern Georgia, representing businesses of all sizes as well as state and local government entities.
Shara is a past President of the Junior League of DeKalb County. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for St. Martin's Episcopal School and the Board of Directors of the DeKalb Library Foundation and Leadership DeKalb. Shara is also an active volunteer for the St. Martin's PTO and with Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
