Justus holds a MSc in Financial Economics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, a MSc in Contemporary Asian Studies from the University of Amsterdam and a BSc in Economics and Business Economics from the University of Amsterdam

Kim Booij

Prior to joining Velocity, Kim worked as senior legal counsel at a hospitality scale up with activities throughout Europe, focusing on banking and finance matters. Kim started her career as a lawyer at Clifford Chance in the Amsterdam office, where she worked in both the litigation and finance department. Kim holds an LLM from the University of Amsterdam and an MA in philosophy from Leiden University.

Martine Nederlof

The fast-paced world of venture capital and private equity requires an ability to efficiently juggle multiple priorities with a high level of attention to detail. Martine Nederlof embodies these essential traits. Since 1999, Martine has served as the "control tower" of the Velocity office, ensuring the firm's operations run smoothly. Martine eases day-to-day operational burdens (and moves mountains when needed) so Velocity's leadership team can remain focused on their mission to identify and support some of the world's most transformative fintech organizations.

Tom Desmond

Tom has spent his career building and investing in successful fintech companies. Most recently, he was Co-Founder, CGO and CFO of TradeKing, an online broker and digital wealth manager based in the U.S. Tom oversaw the growth and eventual sale of TradeKing in 2016 to Ally Financial (NYSE: ALLY), a Fortune 200 company and leading digital bank. He remained with Ally for 3 years to lead the integration of TradeKing into Ally Bank as an independent operating subsidiary and re-brand the company as Ally Invest. Prior to TradeKing, Tom was a Co-Founder and Partner of Baird Venture Partners (BVP), a venture capital firm based in Chicago focused on early-stage technology companies. Prior to BVP, Tom was a Vice President with Robert W. Baird & Company's investment banking group where he managed numerous IPOs and M&A transactions for Technology and Business Services clients. Tom began his career at Morningstar, Inc., a long-time leader in the fintech space, where he ran Morningstar's flagship product, Morningstar Mutual Funds. Tom earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, an M.A. from Michigan State University and B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.

Victor de Leeuw

Prior to joining Velocity, Victor was an investor at Paladin Capital, a global venture capital fund focused on early-stage deep tech companies, with offices in Washington DC, New York City, Silicon Valley, and London. Victor started his career in investment banking at Barclays in London where he advised tech and media companies on M&A and capital markets transactions Victor holds a MSc in Econometrics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and a BSc in Econometrics from the University of Groningen where he focused on applying machine learning to financial markets

Willem Willemstein - Founder

Willem focuses on the intersection of technology and the financial behaviors, markets and infrastructures that connect us and create opportunity for people across the globe. That interest is manifest in his fully-owned venture fund, Velocity Capital Private Equity, as well as other high-impact investing endeavors for Velocity Capital, ranging from select global real estate investments to dairy production capabilities in Ethiopia. Through Velocity Capital Private Equity, Willem offers his portfolio partners not only the funding support they need to succeed, but a deep personal commitment to adding value through proven business acumen, an uncanny ability to connect the dots and a carefully cultivated global business network. Willem's experience spans two IPOs, 40 M&As and a multitude of varying business deals in between. Before Velocity, Willem was co-CEO of Petroplus, a company he co-founded in 1993 and took public on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange in 1998. In subsequent years, he helped Petroplus navigate multiple stages in its lifecycle, including its delisting in 2005, a restructuring of the Petroplus group, and its relisting in 2006 on the SWX exchange in Zurich, Switzerland. Before Petroplus, Willem first established his business credentials as a successful corporate banker at ING. Willem holds a BSc degree with honours from the HEAO business school in The Hague. He holds a MBA degree from Erasmus University in Rotterdam and the William E. Simon School of Management of the University of Rochester (New York, USA).
