Alex Vogel Jr. is an Associate at the Vogel Group. Alex supports both the firm and its clients by conducting extensive policy research and closely monitoring legislative developments. Alex has a strong background in policy analysis through a variety of experiences in Washington. Before joining the Vogel Group, Alex nurtured a strong interest in the legislative process during an internship with Senator Marsha Blackburn's office. Through this experience, he honed his policy drafting and research skills. Alex also worked as a political intern for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). In this role, he wrote campaign literature and conducted opposition research, deepening his understanding of political strategy. Alex's diverse experience and commitment make him an asset to the Vogel Group team and clients. Alex attended the University of Virginia, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Government and Media Studies. Alex Vogel is a lawyer and nationally recognized policy expert on federal regulatory and legislative strategy, risk management, political strategy, crisis management, and strategic communications. Throughout his career, he has been a senior policy negotiator in the most significant matters before Congress, including serving as a top leadership staffer in the Senate. Alex is respected by Fortune 500 companies, private equity firms, trade associations, and national coalitions as the architect of winning strategies and execution in their most high-stakes policy and regulatory challenges. Alex has been recognized for his work in The Hill's Top Lobbyists list more than ten times in his career, including in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022. Prior to founding two influential government affairs firms, Alex served as Chief Counsel to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D., where he was responsible for political and legislative strategy and oversight on a range of business and policy areas, including tort reform, technology and telecommunications, judicial nominations, entertainment industry issues, health care, campaign finance, and privacy. Alex directly managed the passage of the Can-Spam Act and the Class Action Fairness Act. He also managed the multi-industry negotiations related to the Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution (FAIR) Act. Additionally, Alex served as the Majority Leader's liaison to the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force, the 9/11 Commission, the NASA Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB), and was responsible for issues relating to continuity of government for the legislative branch. In this role, Alex served as the "designated survivor" during the 2004 State of the Union Address. Most recently, he served as Chief Legislative Aide and Senior Advisor to the Senate Majority Leader and President Designate, Senator Ben Albritton (R-Wauchula). In this role, he worked to pass legislative priorities of the Senator, secure millions of dollars in appropriations, and provide advice on key decisions. Before serving in the Senate, he was the Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs at the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under Commissioner Adam Putnam. Bob Van Heuvelen joined the Vogel Group after serving as CEO of VH Strategies which he founded in 2007, following a distinguished 32-year career in the federal government. For the past 14 years, he has achieved positive client outcomes on a wide array of issues. These outcomes have included obtaining federal funding, tax incentives and tax relief, regulatory victories, and targeted legislation to meet our clients' policy objectives. Bob, who has been consistently recognized as a "Top Lobbyist" by The Hill, built VH Strategies into a highly regarded firm that represents clients in the energy and environment, trade, healthcare, and financial services sectors. Prior to founding VH Strategies, Bob served as Chief of Staff to former Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND) from 1997 to 2007. As Chief of Staff, he managed Senator Conrad's policy and political operations, working with Members of Congress and their staff on both sides of the political aisle. David Childs
