Ghanaian-born and London-raised, Eben Awuah is fast becoming the leading name in audio-visual sounds and installations for the continent of Africa. With a career that has spanned over 25 years and has taken him all over the world working with some of entertainment's biggest musicians and productions, Eben is more than equipped to be the go-to expert in all aspects of AV and electrical installation in Africa - and beyond. Background But where did it all begin? Well, the short answer is church! Without even noticing it, an inquisitive 12-year-old Eben started his journey - and subsequent calling - in the audio-visual field at his church based in Wood Green, North London, volunteering to look after the audio system. From there, wanting to further his knowledge and peaked interest, Eben went on to do a technical theatre short course which encompassed sound engineering, lighting and stage management. Upon graduating from the course, he embarked on a tour with a Pan-African dance company for three years as the technical assistant manager. Upon finishing that tour, Eben moved on and started working with one of UK's leading crew companies, Stage Miracles Ltd. During this time, Eben worked on a variety of major music events such as the Michael Jackson ‘Blood on the Dancefloor' tour at Wembley Stadium and Janet Jackson's ‘Velvet Rope' tour. His credits include working with music artists including Jon Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige and - Eben's favourite, Toni Braxton - in a stage manager capacity. As well as this, he has worked on many major festivals such as Glastonbury and large-scale venues such as the aforementioned Wembley Stadium, Wembley Arena, London Arena and Birmingham's NEC to name a few - as well as many West End and leading theatres such as Sadler's Wells, At the beginning of the millennium, Eben felt an urge to return to studying and further develop his growing skills in audio-visual engineering. He subsequently applied to attend the sought-after Mountview Academy of Performing Arts. Such was his level of industry skills and experience; Eben was given an unconditional offer for their two-and-a-half-year Technical Theatre degree. Throughout his course, Eben continued to do his own events under the company Desire Events, as a technician and events promoter hosting live shows with artists from America and Ghana in the UK. With this experience and vast knowledge of audio and lighting engineering, Eben saw that there was a gap in the pan-African market for experienced engineers who could create and replicate the level of audio-visual installations that he has been doing in his two decade career. Observing the growth of ‘mega churches' especially in Nigeria and Ghana, Eben, along with his business partner, Charles Amoah established Amsons Company Ltd over six years ago. Amsons aims to not only be the name in all aspects of the audio-visual landscape in Africa, but the go-to company for electrical installations - big or small. When asked to describe Amsons in three words, without hesitation, Eben declares ‘Excellent in production!' and when asked to describe himself, he notes ‘focused (and) purposely driven'. From a 12-year-old youth who wanted to serve in his church and develop his love for all aspects of sound, visual and electrical contractor, to a man on the cusp of guiding the audio-visual field in the continent of Africa, Eben's drive and experience has placed him in the right spot to lead the way.
