My design office is set up to utilise the benefits of computer technologies and CAD with large-format colour plotting of drawings. Typically the 3D hull design and analysis is carried out using the superb Maxsurf suite from Australia with AutoCAD LT used for drawings and detailing. Numerical design files generated here are regularly used for subsequent CADCAM operations such as cutting of panels or patterns for mould tools. I also offer specialist training courses on the Maxsurf suite at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels... When historic vessels are restored, converted, renovated or refitted to give them a new or extended working life it is usual for a naval architect to be involved. There may be design work required to set out a new arrangement, or the naval architect may assess the stability, strength and performance of the vessel in its new role with the aim of ensuring that it will meet the appropriate regulations...
