Special Agent (SA) Daniel J. Kuhlmeier graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1993. Kuhlmeier enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in December 1994. He first served as the Security Section Leader, Marine Corps Ground Defense Security Force, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Kuhlmeier was later assigned to the American Embassies in Bonn, Germany and Yaounde, Cameroon as the Assistant Detachment Commander. In November 2000, Kuhlmeier entered the United States Army Reserves where he served as a Counterintelligence Agent and Farsi Linguist for the 323rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Meade, Maryland. In 2003, he graduated from the University of Maryland, University College, with highest honors. In October 2003, Kuhlmeier joined the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) and following graduation from AFOSI's Special Investigators' Course in March 2004, was assigned to AFOSI Detachment 204, Offutt AFB, Neb., where he provided support to the 55th Wing and HQ, US Strategic Command. Kuhlmeier later investigated criminal violations related to military members involved in narcotics activities while assigned to the detachment's criminal section.

David Wieger

Special Agent (SA) David Wieger was a Technical Services Agent at AFOSI Det 303, Travis Air Force Base, Calif. He has served in this position since September 2004. In this position, he was responsible for the technical surveillance countermeasures (TSCM) program supporting all Special Access Programs / Special Access Required programs and all Air Force installations on the West Coast to include Alaska and Hawaii. Additionally, SA Wieger provided specialized technical investigative support to 26 AFOSI detachments and operating locations servicing six major commands. Prior to becoming a Technical Services Agent, he served in the base investigative branch at AFOSI Det 303 where he worked general criminal investigations. Special Agent Wieger graduated from Norwin High School in 1997. He entered the Air Force in 1999 as a Visual Imagery and Intrusion Detection System Apprentice. As a result of his outstanding technical expertise, SA Wieger was recruited into the AFOSI's Tech program in 2004. After successfully completing training at the AFOSI Academy, SA Wieger was assigned to AFOSI Det 303, Travis AFB, Calif. On 1 November 2007, Special Agent Wieger was killed when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. Special Agent Wieger was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Force Commendation Medal (2nd Oak leaf cluster) and the Air Force Combat Action Medal.

Lee C. Hitchcock

Special Agent (SA) Lee C. Hitchcock graduated from Riley High School, South Bend,Indiana, in 1958. He attended Purdue University, where he joined the Air Force ROTC program. He graduated from Purdue in January 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Economics and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Air Force. After serving at Norton AFB, California, Hitchcock was assigned as an agent trainee for the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) at OSI Detachment 1703, Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona. He graduated from OSI Basic Course 65-B on 11 June 1965, first in a class of 29 agents. SA Hitchcock then returned to Davis-Monthan AFB to work general investigations. In November 1966 SA Hitchcock was assigned to OSI Detachment 5003, Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam. In February 1967 he reported to OSI Detachment 5008, Pleiku, Vietnam, to serve as detachment commander. The detachment personnel lived and worked in a villa in Pleiku City, approximately eight miles from the air base. In the early morning hours of 10 September 1967, the OSI villa came under attack by Viet Cong guerrillas. They shot the South Vietnamese sentry in front of the OSI building and mounted a 20mm rocket attack directly against the villa, hitting SA Hitchcock's bedroom just as he was moving toward the door. He died shortly thereafter from wounds sustained in the attack. SA Hitchcock was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device for consistently demonstrating professional ability, sound judgment and great enthusiasm for his duties and associated responsibilities. He was also awarded the Air Force Commendation medal. In 1968, The Lee C. Hitchcock Award, given to the student attaining the highest scholastic average at the OSI Special Investigations School, was named in his honor. The Hitchcock Award was later changed to represent the AFOSI Officer Special Agent of the Year.

Ryan Andrew Balmer

Special Agent (SA) Ryan Andrew Balmer graduated from Mishawaka High School,Mishawaka, Indiana, in 1992. Balmer enlisted in the United States Air Force in April 1993. Following Basic Training and Security Police Academy attendance at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, began his career assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana as a Security Specialist. In December 1997 Balmer graduated from Air Force technical training as a C-5 Aircraft Loadmaster and was assigned to Travis Air Force Base, California. In June 2005, he graduated from the United States Air Force Special Investigations Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Brunswick, Georgia. Following graduation, Balmer returned to Travis Air Force Base for temporary reassignment to AFOSI Detachment 303. One month later, he moved to AFOSI's Region 1, Detachment 113, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, assigned to the Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection Program. SA Balmer was temporarily reassigned to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations' Expeditionary Detachment (EDET) 2410, Kirkuk Regional Air Base, Iraq in December 2006. On 5 June 2007, Balmer was in a convoy returning to Kirkuk Regional Air Base. Approximately two miles south of the base, an improvised explosive device detonated adjacent to the convoy, instantly killing him. SA Balmer was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Action Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster).
