David E. Graff

David advises individual clients and families planning the transfer of their wealth from one generation to the next, to provide for friends and loved ones, or to accomplish philanthropic goals. In his estate planning representation, David works to determine and frame his clients' goals and then plan, structure, and draft estate planning documents to achieve those goals. That representation is not just the creation of an estate plan, but an overall strategy including estate, gift, income, and property tax analysis, with consideration of insurance and retirement plans, business planning, and coordination with other professionals. Along with his wife, daughter, and dog, David enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, and scuba diving. David is also an avid photographer who loves to cook and play ice hockey. Professional Experience In addition to planning, David has represented dozens of trustees and executors, advising them on all aspects of trust administrations and probates. David has years of experience in navigating his clients through these issues and making sure they are protected along the way. David also advises clients in tax planning for both personal and business transactions. He represents clients in tax controversies such as gift and estate tax audits and real property tax matters with local County Assessors. David is able to work with clients in the formation and operation of business entities, including non-profit foundations, charities, and charitable trusts.

James M. Sweeney

James' civil litigation practice includes real property, trust and estate, and business disputes. He is experienced in trials, arbitrations and appeals, but is often able to resolve conflicts through negotiation or mediation. Each of his client relationships is personalized to best achieve the client's goals. James attended the UCLA School of Law after earning his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Point Loma Nazarene University. He completed law school at UCLA and joined the bar in 1999 after serving as articles editor for the Law Review, and as a judicial extern on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. James is a current member and former Director of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association, and a past Editor of the Santa Barbara Lawyer Magazine. He has also been a member of the American Inns of Court, an institution dedicated to advancing professionalism in the practice of law and developing a positive working relationship among local attorneys and judges. Between court dates James enjoys live music, golf, sporting clays, snowboarding, and hiking.

Mr. Graziano is the managing senior partner of Allen & Kimbell. Paul maintains dual Certified Specializations of the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization in: (i) Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Law; and (ii) Taxation Law. Mr. Graziano is an AV-Rated attorney, and is nationally and regionally acknowledged for his expertise in estate planning, probate and trust law, and tax law. Mr. Graziano is a member of the Tax, Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Sections of the State Bar of California and has served on the Estate and Gift Tax Committee of the State Bar Taxation Section. Paul is a member of the Santa Barbara Estate Planning Council and has served as its President. He is a member and former Director of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association, and also a former Chair of its Estate Planning and Probate Section. Mr. Graziano regularly speaks to professional societies and organizations on topics relating to tax planning, estate planning, charitable planning and estate and trust administration. Rebecca S. Koch

Professional Experience Ms. Koch is a skilled and compassionate attorney who enjoys helping her clients to achieve their personal and business goals. Her practice focuses primarily on estate planning, probate, and trust administration. Prior to joining Allen & Kimbell, LLP in January of 2023, Ms. Koch worked as a trusts and estates attorney for five years at the local law firm Rogers, Sheffield & Campbell, LLP; and, prior to that, she spent several years in private practice, again, predominantly assisting clients with trust and estate matters. At that time, she also served as the Director of Operations for her family's local skincare company, which increased her knowledge and understanding relating to small business operations and management. Before moving into trusts and estates circa 2014, Ms. Koch worked in a variety of sectors, including government and non-profit organizations, business, mental health, and fiduciary services. Ms. Koch's experience in diverse and challenging professional roles allows her to take a holistic approach to legal representation; always carefully considering how different aspects of a client's life may impact the type and extent of services required. As a parent of young children, Ms. Koch is particularly passionate about helping young families plan for any contingency, including the death or incapacity of one or both parents. Ms. Koch is a Santa Barbara native, and returned to the area in 2013, following a decade in the San Francisco Bay Area followed by a short stint in Phoenix, Arizona. Ms. Koch earned her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of California and the State Bar of Arizona (inactive). Tessa focuses her practice on estate planning, trust administration, and probate law. She advises individuals on all aspects of estate and tax planning, and has experience preparing trusts, wills, powers of attorney, health care directives and real property transfer documents. She prides herself on creating customized, high-quality estate planning documents for her clients based on their specific families and needs. Tessa has spent much of her life working with special needs students and now devotes part of her practice to special needs trusts. Tessa received her B.A. in political science from USC in 2016, with honors, and her J.D. from UC Davis School of Law in 2020. While in law school, Tessa served on the board of the King Hall Legal Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing equal access of underserved populations to the American Legal System, represented domestic violence victims as a part of the Family Protection and Legal Assistance Clinic, and represented students with disabilities. In her free time, Tessa enjoys spending time with her family and her Australian Shepherds, playing tennis, and cooking.

Mr. Deakyne graduated with Honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2003 with a major in History and a minor in Sports Management. He received his law degree from Villanova University in 2006 and joined the California Bar in 2008 Professional Experience Timothy Deakyne's practice focuses on trust and estates, including the structuring and drafting of estate planning documents, as well as probate and trust administrations. Before joining the firm, he started and developed his own estate planning and administration practice. Mr. Deakyne is a proud contributor to the Santa Barbara community. He serves on planned giving advisory boards for both UCSB and the UCSB Alumni Association. He is a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics, AYSO and YMCA. He is an avid sports fan with a passion for golf, soccer and basketball. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children and cheering on the UCSB Gauchos.
