Gary S. Basso

Gary S. Basso graduated from St. John's Law School in 1973, and earned an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University's Graduate School of Law in 1976. He became licensed to practice in New York State in 1974 and Florida in 1976. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Southern and Eastern District Courts. Since his admission, he has been engaged in general practice, with emphasis on probate and estate administration, kinship/beneficiary hearings, guardianships, and wills and estates. In the past, he also specialized in defending large insurance companies such as Geico, Allstate and State Farm. He now uses his expertise in insurance law to represent personal injury victims. He has tried a number of cases in New York, Bronx and Westchester Counties. He primarily focuses in the areas of Trusts and Estate Law and Personal Injury litigation. This includes estate litigation; estate planning; probate and administration of estates and trusts, and negligence litigation. He provides estate planning and counseling advice and represents clients in litigated trust and estate matters; including will contests, kinship hearings, disputes over the validity of trusts, and accountings, before the Surrogate's Courts and other courts throughout New York State. Gary S. Basso has been appointed by the Court on numerous occasions over the years as guardian-ad-litem in probate, accounting and compromise proceedings, as guardian of the person and property of incapacitated persons, as guardian ad litem of incapacitated persons, as guardian ad litem in conservatorship proceedings, and as a court evaluator and court examiner in guardianship proceedings. Gregory D. Basso

Gregory D. Basso graduated from Fordham University in the Bronx in 2007 and graduated from Touro Law School in 2010. He became licensed to practice law in New Jersey in 2010 and New York State in 2011. From 2011-2016, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn where he prosecuted serious felonies, including conducting jury trials, grand jury presentations and other complex investigations. Following his time at the District Attorney's Office, Gregory practiced personal injury law for a major insurance defense law firm in lower Manhattan. Gregory joined Velella and Basso in 2017 where he specializes in probate and estate administration, estate litigation, criminal law and negligence litigation.
