Maida Vale is well known for its picturesque streets, sought after, communal gardens, red brick fronted mansions and white stucco villas overlooking Regent's Canal. The first mansion blocks were built back in 1897 and have retained some of their original architectural features.
A short-stretch of Edgware Road became known as ‘Maida Vale' in 1828, although this wasn't applied to the entire locality until much later on in the century. The name comes from the Hero of Maida (also an inn on Edgware Road) that honoured a British lieutenant-general in the battle of Maida in southern Italy during the Napoleonic Wars who was honoured as a count by King Ferdinand IV of Naples. The station building dates back to 1915 however building in the area didn't start until the early 1970s when the church commissioners sold on many of the freehold titles in the area.

Primrose Hill itself forms part of the Royal Parks, linked to Regents Park and the ZSL London Zoo and is one of six protected viewpoints in the UK. The summit is approximately 63 metres above sea level and the trees are kept low to give an uninterrupted view of the city and beyond, views of the famous London Zoo aviary can be seen just above the trees from the top. The canal in Regent's Park has its own Waterbus which is a great day out for families in the area. If they're passionate about singing, dancing and drama aspiring actors and actresses at Stagecoach Theatre Arts School has a branch in the area offering classes and holiday workshops and themed parties. Primrose Hill is located in Zone 2 and retains part of its village atmosphere. The nearest tube station is Chalk Farm Underground, a 10 minute walk away, which sits on the Edgware branch of the Northern Line and Swiss Cottage tube station which is serviced by the Jubilee Line is also a short distance away. For overground trains, Kentish Town West and Camden Road are the closest. By bus, the 274 is nearby with routes serving Lancaster Gate and Angel, further buses can also be picked up from Chalk Farm and Camden. Across the park, Marylebone is within walking distance and offers an array of amenities and tourist destinations.
