CLEVER HOUND - Key Persons

Kristina Schaeffer

My name is Krissy Schaeffer and I have been working with dogs since 2001. That's when I got my first German Shepherd and started training under various instructors. I soaked up everything I could about dog training. I've spent time helping rescue groups through fostering, and belong to the local dog training club. I worked at a local private dog park, managing play groups. I met Megan Esherick back in 2003, and started taking classes with her as soon as she opened The Clever Hound, LLC in 2016. I enjoy most fostering the human, canine bond through positive methods. I currently train and show in Obedience, Agility and Scentwork. I am also an approved AKC Canine Good Citizen tester. I am owned by a Rottweiler/Standard Poodle mix named Odin and a Lab/Bassett/Spaniel mix named Hudson.

Stephanie Mays

Stephanie Mays is a retired teacher. She taught children from preschool through fifth grade for over thirty years. She spent twenty of those years teaching first graders. Stephanie graduated from Shippensburg University with her B.S. in elementary education. She earned her master's degree from Kutztown University. Shortly before retirement she successfully completed a course, Canine Training and Management offered through Kutztown University's Lifelong Learning program. This course was instructed by Susan Bulunda, a worldwide known expert in animal behavior. It emphasized the importance of teaching your dog through positive training methods and techniques. Stephanie was so enlightened with this course that she then took and completed "Level II" which focused on Animal Behavior. Stephanie is a certified Canine Good Citizen (CGC) instructor and has been teaching the STAR puppy kindergarten program for fifteen years. She is a member and active participant of Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD), making hundreds of visits to retirement centers, hospitals, schools, libraries, etc. with her dogs. She has recently become a tester/observer for this organization as well. Stephanie has always had a passion for dogs. She currently has two…Addy a Bernese Mt. Dog/Poodle mix and Soarin' a Silken Windhound. Both dogs are certified therapy dogs and have received Canine Good Citizen, Community Good Citizen, and Urban Good Citizen titles. She enjoys participating with her dogs in obedience, rally, and agility activities and has obtained titles in agility, rally, and trick dogs. However, more than anything else, she just loves taking long walks with them and playing at Godfrey's. The magnet on her car bumper pretty much sums up her feelings this way…"Life is just better when I'm with my dog(s)".
