Amna Fatani

From 2018 to 2022, Amna Fatani was the Associate Director of Strategy for Community Jameel, an independent, global organisation advancing science to help communities thrive in a rapidly changing world. Amna oversaw the development of a wide variety of projects, in the areas of education, health, climate, and evidence, working with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London and other strategic partners. With over a decade of experience in the international development field, Amna led the organisation's work in curating social programmes that are designed for impact and driven by local voices and needs. She also managed the Community Jameel internship programme. Amna's expertise is in development economics and management consulting with hands-on experience in research, impact evaluations and strategy development. Prior to joining Community Jameel, Amna worked at McKinsey & Company, where she developed expertise in Economic Development, Labour Markets and Education. She also worked with the World Bank, Save the Children US and the Saudi Ministry of Labour (since merged into the Ministry of Human Resource and Social Development). In 2010, she co-founded an education organisation with a primary focus on building curricula and delivering educational programmes to youth, reaching over 2,000 young people in Saudi Arabia. She also consulted with a non-profit organisation in Mexico, where she delivered strategic insights and on-the-ground training workshops to their staff and beneficiaries. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from King Abdulaziz University, and a Master's degree in international development from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Amna has advanced proficiency in English and Arabic, and conversational Spanish.

Dalia Atallah

Dalia Atallah is a Junior Officer at Community Jameel, an international organisation advancing science to help communities adapt in a rapidly changing world. Prior to joining Community Jameel, Dalia worked in both the academic sector at Sciences Po CERI as well as in the development sector at Arcenciel and at the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, co-hosting the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Dalia has extensive experience in advocacy as she led numerous initiatives such as Watani Youghani, Sciences Po Med Liban, The Arab Student Organization of Sciences Po, International Women's Day in Armenia. Dalia is a student enrolled in the highly selective dual Master's programme between Sciences Po's Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) and Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). She has completed her first year at Sciences Po in International Security with a concentration in Global Risks, and will be studying Human Rights and Humanitarian Policy, focusing on International Conflict Resolution at SIPA starting September 2023.

Dr Erum Mariam

Dr Mariam is the executive director of BRAC Institute of Educational Development (IED), BRAC University, in Bangladesh. Dr Mariam completed her PhD in Education from the University of Cambridge in 2008. She has extensive experience of scaling up education interventions both nationally and globally, and was involved in the expansion of the unique BRAC run Non-Formal Primary (NFP) Schools in the 1990s. Since 2008, Dr Mariam has promoted BRAC IED's vision of contributing to the improvement of quality, equity, and efficiency in the education system in partnership with the public sector.

Fady Jameel - SEVP

Fady Jameel is Vice Chairman of Community Jameel, an independent, global organisation advancing science to help communities thrive in a rapidly changing world. In this role, Fady is closely involved in Community Jameel's efforts to tackle some of humanity's greatest challenges, including: global poverty; water and food security; the future of education; machine learning in health; data modelling of disease; and early action against hunger. Fady is the Founder and Chairman of Art Jameel, the arts and culture organisation. Alongside partnerships with the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Art Jameel runs two major art centres, Hayy Jameel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. These centres serve as a platform to support and foster contemporary art and creative entrepreneurship across the region and worldwide. Fady is a member of the Council for the Arts at MIT. Fady is Vice Chairman of Bab Rizq Jameel, the award-winning livelihoods programme that has helped hundreds of thousands of men and women in Saudi Arabia to work, and Vice Chairman of Community Jameel Saudi Arabia. Fady is Deputy President and Vice Chairman, International of Abdul Latif Jameel, a family-owned diversified business, founded in 1945 by his grandfather, the late Abdul Latif Jameel. Fady holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan. He speaks English, Arabic, and Japanese.

George Richards

George Richards is the Director of Community Jameel, an independent, global organisation advancing science to help communities thrive in a rapidly changing world. Prior to becoming Director in 2020, George led strategy for the organisation from 2015, and was head of heritage programmes at Art Jameel, the arts and culture organisation, with responsibility for initiatives in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and beyond, sustaining traditional cultural practices, supporting architectural preservation, and digitally recording heritage. An Arabist specialising in the archaeoastronomy of pre-Islamic Arabia, George has undertaken field expeditions to document cultural heritage on behalf of the British Library and the British Institute for the Study of Iraq, and has served as the special rapporteur for cultural heritage to the Kurdistan Regional Government; a specialist assessor to the British government's Cultural Protection Fund; and a senior fellow at the Iraqi government's cultural heritage commission, Iraq Heritage. George took a First in Arabic and Persian from the University of Edinburgh in 2003. He is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and a trustee of The Prince's Foundation.

Hassan Jameel is Vice Chairman of Community Jameel, an independent, global organisation advancing science to help communities thrive in a rapidly changing world. In this role, Hassan has supported Community Jameel's efforts to tackle some of humanity's greatest challenges, including: global poverty; water and food security; the future of education; machine learning in health; data modelling of disease; and early action against hunger. Hassan has a strong personal interest in Community Jameel's education programmes, including Transforming Refugee Education towards Excellence (TREE) a collaboration between Save the Children and the MIT Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL), tackling the psychosocial challenges encountered by teachers and students in Jordan. Hassan is Vice Chairman of Bab Rizq Jameel, a job creation initiative in the Middle East and North Africa, that has helped hundreds of thousands of men and women improve their lives through work, with recruitment initiatives, microfinance programmes, and other innovative projects tailored to providing job opportunities for men and women in the Arab world. Hassan is also Vice Chairman of Community Jameel Saudi Arabia. Hassan is Deputy President and Vice Chairman of Abdul Latif Jameel, where he heads domestic operations, including automotive, land and real estate, and machinery. Hassan currently sits on the Global Advisory Board for the University of Tokyo and the Dean's Advisory Council in the School of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an advisor to CoMotion and a founding member of the Family Business Council - Gulf, which supports the growth and development on family businesses in the region. Hassan holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Economics from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan, and gained an MBA from the London Business School. He speaks English, Arabic, and Japanese.

James Kidner

James Kidner has been working in technology start-ups for the last five years, after a career in the Diplomatic Service. He joined Rebellion Defence, a new UK-US company building software for defence and security, in 2019 as Director of Partnerships. This followed three years at Improbable, another technology unicorn, which makes platforms for computer games and large-scale simulations. Before that, he served for three decades in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and in other Whitehall positions, including on the Senior Directing Staff of the Royal College of Defence Studies from 2014-2016, in the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit, and in the office of the Leader of the House of Commons. Overseas, he worked in India, Malaysia and Bulgaria; and from 2003 - 2006 he was Deputy Private Secretary to The Prince of Wales. James was the founding Director of Coexist - a new educational charity working to help people understand religion's role in today's globalised society. He has a BA and MA from Oxford University, where he studied History at Christ Church. He lives on a family farm on Dartmoor.

Mohammed Jameel - Chairman, Founder

Mohammed Abdul Latif Jameel KBE is the founder and chairman of Community Jameel, through which Mr Jameel continues the tradition of community service established by his father. A Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) alumnus, Mr Jameel has led Community Jameel to a longstanding and deep collaboration with MIT, with support to four major centres: the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), whose co-founders Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee, along with longtime J-PAL affiliate Michael Kremer, won the 2019 Nobel Prize for Economics; the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS), which launched the Jameel Index for Food Trade and Vulnerability in 2022; the Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL); and the Abdul Latif Jameel Clinic for Machine Learning in Health (Jameel Clinic). With MIT, Community Jameel has also created an undergraduate scholarship for students from Asia and the Middle East (since 1994); supported and mentored entrepreneurs in the Arab world through an annual startup competition (since 2005); and through MIT J-WEL pioneered innovative approaches to refugee education. Mr Jameel is an MIT Corporation life member. Committed to improving healthcare for all, in addition to the Jameel Clinic at MIT, Community Jameel cofounded the Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics (Jameel Institute) with Imperial College London, to combat threats from disease worldwide, and which launched the Jameel Institute-Kenneth C. Griffin Initiative for the Economics of Pandemic Preparedness to help governments model the economic and epidemiological impact of public health response to outbreaks of infectious diseases. Mr Jameel's father established the Abdul Latif Jameel Hospital in Jeddah, the first non-profit specialist facility for physical rehabilitation, and today a centre for advanced therapies. In 2021, Community Jameel - together with the University of Edinburgh, Save the Children, the CGIAR International Livestock Research Institute and J-PAL - launched the Jameel Observatory for Food Security Early Action in Nairobi, Kenya. The Jameel Observatory harnesses the power of data science to monitor, forecast and enable early action against outbreaks of acute hunger and famine in the face of climate change. In music, Community Jameel and the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, where Mr Jameel is a member of the advisory board, have cofounded a scholarship at the Royal College of Music in London to support students in need. As founder and chairman of Bab Rizq Jameel, a job creation initiative in the Middle East and North Africa, Mr Jameel has helped hundreds of thousands of men and women improve their lives through work, with recruitment initiatives, microfinance programmes, and other innovative projects tailored to providing job opportunities for men and women in the Arab world. As a patron of the arts, Mr Jameel supported Art Jameel to promote artists and creative communities around the world with programmes in learning, the arts and heritage. These include the Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai; the Jameel Gallery and the Jameel Prize at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; Hayy Jameel in Jeddah; and a network of centres and programmes preserving cultural heritage and supporting heritage-based creative industries in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and beyond. Mr Jameel is also the chairman and chief executive officer of Abdul Latif Jameel, an international, family-owned and diversified business, founded in 1945, by his father, the late Abdul Latif Jameel. Mr Jameel has been recognised with a number of honours, including the highest award in Saudi Arabia, the King Abdul Aziz Medal of the First Order, from HM King Abdullah in recognition of his personal contribution to job creation initiatives amongst young Saudi men and women; and an honorary knighthood (KBE) from HM Queen Elizabeth II for his philanthropic activities and support for the development of arts and culture.

Nader Diab

Nader Diab is Senior Policy and Operations Officer at Community Jameel, an independent, global organisation advancing science to help communities thrive in a rapidly changing world. Nader leads efforts to monitor and optimise Community Jameel's operations. He also engages policymakers and policy partners to achieve impact at scale. Prior to joining Community Jameel, Nader worked for various NGOs and intergovernmental organisations in areas of international law and policy. Nader has a BA in law from the Lebanese University and an LLM from the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, and has published chapters and papers in books and academic journals in his field. He speaks Arabic, French and English. As part of his interest in visual storytelling, Nader also studied videography and drone piloting.

Sabrina Gilby

Sabrina Gilby is Creative Associate at Community Jameel, an international organisation advancing science to help communities adapt to a rapidly changing world. Sabrina leads the research and production of creative multimedia content for Community Jameel. Prior to joining Community Jameel, Sabrina was a research consultant directing public opinion analysis and monitoring and evaluation projects for private sector, governmental, and non-governmental organisations. Her previous experience includes business development and research roles at creative communications agencies in Paris and Beirut and directing partnerships for Watersprite, the U.K.'s largest student-led film festival. Sabrina holds a B.A. in Management Studies with French and Arabic from the University of Cambridge.

Shobhini Mukerji

Shobhini Mukerji is the executive director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) South Asia office. J-PAL started as a center at the economics department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to improve the effectiveness of anti-poverty programmes by providing policymakers with clear scientific evidence on what works and not in the fight against global poverty. In 2019, J-PAL co-founders Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee, and long-time research affiliate Michael Kremer, won the Nobel Prize in Economics. As the CEO of J-PAL's largest office, hosted by IFMR, and employing 200 full time staff, Shobhini oversees the pan-India operations of J-PAL SA, which has partnerships with over 16 state governments and several central government agencies. Shobhini works closely with donors, policymakers, civil society partners, and research institutions to promote collaborations to increase the use of evidence in decision-making and scale-ups of successful social programmes in India and the South Asia region. Shobhini has over 18 years of extensive research and evaluation experience, ranging from designing and managing large scale primary data collection and analysis, to providing advice to organisations and governments on research design, monitoring, and evaluation strategies. Her research includes recently published papers on primary education interventions in India found to be highly impactful and at the stages of being scaled up across several Indian states and in parts of Africa, to reach over 40 million children. Shobhini is on the Executive Board of CARE India, the largest non-profit in India focusing on empowerment of women and girls through programmes in health, education, livelihoods and disaster preparedness. Shobhini began her career working at Pratham, one of the largest non-governmental organisations of India, working towards universal quality primary education to ensure every child is in school and has mastered basic literacy and numeracy. In the past, Shobhini has served on various expert committees for reviewing research proposals and on advisory boards of non-profits. Shobhini Mukerji holds a Master's degree in Social Research Methods from the London School of Economics with a focus on Social Policy and Statistics.

Uzma Sulaiman

Uzma Sulaiman is Associate Director for Community Jameel, an independent, global organisation advancing science to help communities thrive in a rapidly changing world. Uzma leads Community Jameel's engagement with the public and private sector, galvanising support and influencing policymakers to ensure scientific breakthroughs contribute to society and policy decisions. Uzma has over decade of experience in the international development field. Prior to joining Community Jameel, Uzma spent six years at Save the Children, leading the organisation's Middle East partnerships team and developing its strategy. While at Save the Children, she helped launch its largest humanitarian training initiative with a consortium of government and philanthropic partners across North America, Europe and the Middle East. Before joining Save the Children, Uzma led communications for a social enterprise in South Africa that focused on access to education for remote communities. Uzma started her career as a journalist working for BBC World and was instrumental in creating UNESCO's first World Radio Day, celebrating the power of radio in journalism. She holds a MA in International Journalism from City, University of London and a BA in History and Politics from the University of Exeter.

Yara Sakr

Yara Sakr is General Manager for Public Relations and Communications at Community Jameel. As part of her role, she oversees all communication activities for the organisation and highlights its partner programmes. Her previous experience spans investor relations, communications, and business development at a number of private sector entities and non-governmental organisations. Yara holds a B.A. in Political Science from the American University in Cairo and an MSc in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
