Elaine Shell

Elaine started work at Jacobs as an office junior upon leaving college in 1979. Within a few months she became secretary to Miss Sue Harrop in the family department and it was here that she developed her interest in Family Law. Wanting to understand more about why things were done the way they were, Elaine enrolled with the Institute of Legal Executives and progressed through their training scheme until eventually qualifying as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives. However, because of changes effecting rights of audience in lower level family courts, Elaine decided to advance her education further and followed a part time Law Degree and LPC. course at Liverpool John Moores University leading to her eventual qualification as a solicitor. Elaine's main passion is helping people with Family law problems, whether this be a divorce; finance ; children related problems or injunction issues. In addition Elaine assists in the Private Client department by advising in relation to Lasting Powers of Attorney; Wills and Probate matters. She is also able to advise in relation to Change of Name deeds and small claim court debts. Outside of the office the majority of Elaine's time is spent participating in one of her musical activities or, in her kitchen baking.

Hannah Kelly

Hannah joined Jacobs in July 2021, having worked for a number of years at another Cheshire law firm. Hannah graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2006 with honours, and qualified as a solicitor in 2011, after working as a paralegal in criminal defence for a number of years. Hannah has always had a passion for working in the criminal justice system, and this is demonstrated in her representing clients at their most vulnerable with compassion and understanding, whilst giving robust advice and representation. Since qualifying as a solicitor, Hannah has become police station accredited, allowing her to represent clients at the police station, and is also a duty solicitor, having completed the Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme in 2012. She has also completed her training for vulnerable witness advocacy, and in February 2021 Hannah qualified as a Higher Court Advocate. Away from the court and police station, Hannah enjoys spending her time walking her two crazy beagles, watching true crime documentaries, and running to keep fit. Maurice Jacobs

Its founder, Maurice Jacobs, had practiced in Ellesmere Port for many years prior to that as a partner in Oliver & Co. He was a well known and well loved figure in the town with his deep gravelly voice and constant cigar and with a legal brain second to none. He dealt with all sorts of cases - including the aftermath of the Isle of Man fire in the 1970s - and also sat as a District Judge in the Chester County Court Sadly, Maurice - known to even his closest friends as "Mr Jacobs" - passed away in 2005 having retired from the firm in 1996.

Petra Theohari

Prior to working at Jacobs Solicitors Petra worked down south in high profile companies such as American Express and Distillers Ltd. After marrying she moved up north and in 1992 joined Jacobs as a Secretary for Miss Sue Harrop in the Family Department. Petra then made the decision to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive with her specialised field being Conveyancing although she also has expertise in family matters including contact, residence and financial issues. Petra is pleased to be part of a great team of well qualified staff whose paramount aim is to provide the best possible care and outcome for their clients.

Steven Alis

Steven qualified as a Solicitor in 1986 having completed his articles at Decordova Alis and Filce where he became a partner in 1990. In December 2006 DeCordova and Jacobs merged and Steven became a partner in the joint firm. He continued to run the North Wales office until moving full-time to the Ellesmere Port office in 2011. Whilst Steven is Head of the Criminal Department, he can also assist with immigration, benefit appeals, criminal injury claims and employment matters. Steven has been appointed as a Judge in both the Immigration and Social Entitlement Chambers. Stevie Bate

Stevie has worked in criminal defence since 2015 and joined Jacobs Solicitors in June 2023. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Stevie worked as a paralegal in criminal defence whilst studying at Manchester Law School, where she graduated with honours in 2017. Stevie qualified as a solicitor in 2019 having completed her training contract with a law firm in West Yorkshire. She then went to work at a Cheshire law firm after qualifying and gained her duty solicitor qualification (Criminal Litigation Accreditation). Stevie is also a police station representative and has experience dealing with a wide range of offences from minor thefts to murder. Stevie prides herself on providing straightforward and honest advice to clients, achieving the best results for them and their individual circumstances. Sue Burton

Sue started work at Jacobs upon qualifying as a Solicitor back in 1987 and was made a Partner in 1989. Her main areas of work were Conveyancing and Wills, but also spent 10 years as a Duty Solicitor with the Criminal department. She now primarily deals with Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Probate. As Sue has been with us for over 30 years, she really enjoys meeting with and assisting generations of families. Outside of work, Sue enjoys swimming and supporting the Scotland rugby team.' Sue has been a Partner/Director since 1989 , overseeing and developing the Private Client department, wills and specialising in assisting her Elderly Clients.
