There are two established pricing systems for competitive wholesale electricity markets: A nodal or a zonal pricing system. In a nodal pricing system, not just one but a multitude of market prices are determined - one for each node of the electricity system. This post explores CAISO's nodal pricing system by analyzing the variance of its Day-Ahead market prices for 2019 and 2020.
