Neil Sugarman

Neil Sugarman qualified as a Solicitor in 1981. Since that time he has practised almost exclusively in the field of personal injury litigation. He is a Consultant Solicitor, having previously been the Managing Partner of GLP Solicitors at Bury, Greater Manchester since 1999. Neil has experience of all types of personal injury work and has represented many accident victims that have been successful in achieving awards in excess of £1 million. He has developed a special interest in Criminal Injuries Compensation claims on behalf of shaken babies who have suffered catastrophic brain damage and received a commendation for his work in the UNICEF Child Rights Lawyer of the year Awards 2001. Neil is a Past President and Past Executive Committee member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). He is also a Fellow of APIL and a member of Headway, the national Brain Injury Charity. A contributor to a major legal text on the handling of serious personal injury claims, Neil is also an updating author to Butterworth's Personal Injury Litigation Service. He is also a past member and assessor to the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel and sat on the Rehabilitation Code Working Party on behalf of APIL. He has lectured widely to a variety of groups on the topic of personal injury. He has also been invited to add comment and content to both television and radio programmes on personal injury matters and has a national reputation as an expert in relation to Criminal Injuries cases. He is the APIL delegate to the CICA's Stakeholder and Equality Forum. Neil Sugarman is an appointed member of the Law Society Personal Injury Panel, a Fellow and Executive Committee member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) for whom he lectures on a regular basis, and an APIL Brain Injury Accredited Lawyer. He has lectured for APIL and is a delegate to the Stakeholder and Equality Forum. Neil is also an author on Criminal Injuries Compensation in legal textbooks and an Updating Editor to a legal service on personal injury law. He gained a commendation for his work in children's claims in the UNICEF Child Rights Lawyer Awards 2001, and provides training for local authorities and charities that support victims of crime. Neil was our managing partner until 2019 and continues to ensure our lawyers benefit from his extensive knowledge and experience.

Steven Astley

Steven is an injury lawyer with more than 20 years' experience handling all types of personal injury claims, including serious and catastrophic injury cases (spine, brain, serious orthopaedic) and fatal accidents. He represents clients who have suffered what can be life changing injuries as a result of accidents or intentional assaults, regularly helping bereaved families and victims of violent crimes, rape and sexual abuse make an application to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority or make a civil claim directly against the offender or organisation at fault. As the Head of our Injury Department, he uses his extensive case handling and managerial experience with leading national law firms for the benefit of GLP, its staff and its clients, and has acted as an adviser to other law firms, leading Insurers, major Banks and businesses about Injury related compensation, as well as having lectured across the profession on a range of topics.
