Craig W. Beck, MBA, MHA, draws on nearly 30 years of healthcare experience as the Chief Operating Officer, Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics/Southern Region. Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics multi-specialty group practice. He serves as the administrative partner to the southern region chief medical officer to set and implement strategies that advance the southern region's footprint in support of the Dartmouth Health system and for the patients and communities served. Beck's primary focus is on growing Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics' suite of clinical offerings in the region, navigating the critical relationships in southern New Hampshire on behalf of Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics, and identifying positive solutions to improve staff and clinician engagement and efficiency. Beck rejoined Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics in 2017 from St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, New Hampshire, where he served as Vice President of Physician Services, Strategy and Business Development. Prior to St. Joseph, Beck was the Administrative Director of Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics Nashua for 12 years. He was instrumental in the growth and position of the group practice within the Nashua community, as well as the development of the new facility on 2300 Southwood Drive. He holds a Master of Business Administration and an additional graduate degree in healthcare administration. Beck currently serves on the New London Hospital Board of Directors, New London, NH. Previously, he held board positions for Gateways Community Services in Nashua, NH; Home Health & Hospice and the Project Search Business Advisory Council. He is a long-time resident of Goffstown, NH, where he and his wife Michelle, a retired elementary educator and avid mountain biker, have raised their two sons.

Duane A. Compton

Duane Compton, PhD, serves as Dean of the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, where he is also the Senior Associate Dean for Research and a Professor of Biochemistry. Dr. Compton received his PhD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 1988 and completed his postdoctoral training in the field of cell biology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He was recruited to the faculty at Dartmouth in 1993 and is a leader in graduate and medical student education and a distinguished National Institutes of Health-funded researcher. In his research program, Dr. Compton focuses on understanding how cancer cells acquire abnormal chromosome numbers and how those alterations influence cancer cell growth. He has published more than 70 articles, and images of his work have been displayed on the cover of 15 different journals. He serves on national committees with the American Society for Cell Biology and American Association of Medical Colleges and reviews grant applications for the National Institutes of Health and the American Cancer Society. He is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2013 he earned a MERIT award from the NIH to provide long-term support for his research program. Dr. Compton is committed to graduate and medical education. He has graduated 18 PhD students and has served on committees for more than 50 graduate students. He received the Graduate Faculty Mentor Award in 2007. He spent six years as Biochemistry course director for the first-year medical student curriculum and received the Distinguished Lecturer Award in 2004. He was a member of the inaugural class of faculty elected to the Geisel Academy of Master Faculty Educators in 2012. Dr. Compton is an avid snowboarder who lives with his wife in Lyme, New Hampshire.

Conroy, MD, has led Dartmouth Health as chief executive officer and president since 2017, overseeing the management of the state's only academic health system and largest private employer in a complex and rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. Under Conroy's leadership the system's flagship hospital, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, is regularly ranked as the #1 hospital in New Hampshire by U.S. News & World Report. Conroy also has moved Dartmouth Health to continue broadening its service to New Hampshire and Vermont communities through partnerships and collaborations in both states. The Dartmouth Health system now includes four hospitals and a home health agency, and a longstanding, strong relationship with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth continues to provide key academic and research collaborations to train the next generation of physicians. Conroy has long been a vocal advocate for increasing the role of women in leadership, and is often singled out as a role model for other women who aspire to become leaders and agents for positive change in healthcare. Conroy was named to the American Hospital Association's Board of Trustees in 2019, and in 2022 was named Chair-Elect Designate, to serve as chair of the AHA Board in 2024. Michael S. Calderwood, MD, MPH, was named Chief Quality Officer of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in February 2021. Prior to this role, he served as the Associate Chief Quality Officer for Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center since 2019. As Chief Quality Officer for Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Calderwood's responsibilities include management and oversight of the integration of safety, quality, patient experience and value/process improvement activities; along with oversight of quality assurance and regulatory compliance. In addition, he works closely with other Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center chief officers to identify organizational quality, safety, patient experience and value opportunities annually; and to develop policies, programs, metrics, reporting and accountability to aggressively implement improvement. Calderwood joined Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in 2016, and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He is an active physician in the Section of Infectious Disease and International Health, and is board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease. Prior to his current leadership role, he served as Regional Hospital Epidemiologist for the Dartmouth Health system, as the Medical Co-director of the Collaborative Healthcare-associated Infection Prevention team, and as one of the leaders of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Comprehensive Antimicrobial Program. He continues to serve as Co-chair of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Quality Committee, SEARCHES (Significant Event Analysis of Root Causes and Hospital Systems), and the Dartmouth Health system Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee. Calderwood started his career on the staff at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where he directed the hospital's antimicrobial stewardship program, was one of the hospital epidemiologists and was a research investigator in the Therapeutic Research and Infectious Disease Epidemiology group in the Harvard Medical School Department of Population Medicine in Cambridge, MA. This research involved collaborations with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Calderwood earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Harvard University, followed by a medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Chicago, Illinois. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and a fellowship in infectious diseases in the combined Brigham and Women's Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital program. He also holds a master of public health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. Calderwood was elected a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, is a member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, and has served on a number of committees and workgroups in both organizations. He is involved in a number of state advisory workgroups and has been actively engaged in the Dartmouth Health system response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steven L. Bernstein, MD, is the inaugural Chief Research Officer for Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Associate Dean of Clinical Research and Director of the C. Everett Koop Institute at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth (Geisel). As Chief Research Officer, Bernstein oversees all aspects of research at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, including serving as the designated Institutional Official for Research, leading Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center's Office of Research Operations, and overseeing development and implementation of a forward-looking strategic plan for growth of the organization's clinical, translational and population-based research portfolio. As the Associate Dean for Clinical Research for Geisel, Bernstein is responsible for growing and supporting the school's clinical and translational research programs, and, working with colleagues from across Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth College, develops opportunities and processes for clinical and translational research that span the organizations. In his role as the Director of the C. Everett Koop Institute, Bernstein leads the Institute's efforts to advance health and well-being through research, education and policy activities to protect the public health and prevent disease. The institute seeks to mitigate threats posed by the unhealthy promotion and use of consumer products, including tobacco, alcohol and highly processed foods, as well as prescription drugs. Bernstein previously served as Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine and Professor of Public Health (Chronic Disease Epidemiology) in the Yale School of Public Health in New Haven, Connecticut. In those roles, he developed screening and treatment interventions for tobacco users in hospital settings and programs to train providers in tobacco control. He holds a bachelor's degree from Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, and he earned his medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bernstein trained in residencies at SUNY Health Sciences Center and at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York. Bernstein was a fellow in hematology-oncology at SUNY Health Sciences Center and was a visiting fellow in clinical epidemiology at the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at Yale. Bernstein's research has received funding from a broad range of agencies, including the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and other agencies and foundations. His work has appeared in journals as diverse as Health Affairs, the American Journal of Public Health, Annals of Emergency Medicine and Nicotine and Tobacco Research. He has strong interests in implementation science and is the founding Director of the Yale Center for Implementation Science. Current work includes studying the efficacy of a brief counseling intervention, nicotine replacement therapy, a telephone quitline service and an SMS texting program in helping adult smokers in the emergency department quit tobacco. Bernstein is also involved in a project using network analysis to model patterns of adherence and abstinence in human health behavior. He has additional interests in teaching the principles of public health, population health and prevention to medical students, residents and practitioners.
