Bill sailed on the Florida State University Sailing Team and is an active Lightning and Etchells sailor in the Miami community. He is also a professor of large scale physcical oceanography at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel Marine Campus.

Pat Downey is the current Executive Director at the U.S. Sailing Center in Miami. Pat was a three time All-American sailor at Old Dominion University, and as a sophomore won the ICSA Sloop National Championship. Since graduating from ODU, Pat has competed in the 2000 US Olympic trails in the windsurfing class and has trained many junior sailors to the U.S. Junior National Team and the U.S. World Team.
