Listing for an organ transplant is a time consuming and sometimes difficult process. This website is the result of my personal experience, from learning I would need a kidney transplant, to the process I followed to get listed at multiple transplant centers, and then getting a kidney from a deceased donor in only 11 months after listing in 2010... I first learned in 2004 I would likely need a transplant sometime in the future. I have a familial genetic defect which caused this situation. My kidney function declined to the level in the fall of 2009 that made me eligible for listing. This is a Glomeruler Filtration Rate (GFR) of 20. Since the transplant centers in my home city, New York, had waiting times of 5-7 years for my blood type, I pursued listing at other transplant centers, known as "Multiple Listing", with the result of getting a kidney in 11 months...
