Growing up on a farm is a priveledge that a dwindling number of us experience. In the early 20th century, my great grandfather, Spencer, bought that farm and moved all his sons and daughters there so they could attend The Webb School. Somewhere in the Turrentine DNA, given how so many of us are teachers, there is sowed a deep appreciation for giving and receiving an education. My great grandfather on my mother's side was a Swedish immigrant. His son, my grandfather, was a Marine and an electrical engineer... When I was 12 years old, my aunt and uncle gave me a book about how Native Americans constructed their bows and arrows and it quickly led to my boyhood obsession with primitive archery. By the time that I was 14 years old I had carved and used (and broken) probably about 20 bows made out of various kinds of available wood and made numerous other arrows that could have easily been mistaken for museum relics.
