We have developed our own Software Defined Radio Platform, the WideNorth SSDR, that is tailored for use in high-end satellite communication applications. This is a powerful system on a chip (SoC) FPGA platform where SoC FPGA modules and radio front-end modules can be plugged into a carrier board using FMC+ connectors. The SoC modules can be delivered with up to 2 Xilinx UltraScale+ ZU11EG or the ZU19EG modules that are configured with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM for both the ARM processor and the FPGA fabric... WideNorth and our research partners have developed a DVB-S2X modem that supports carriers up to 1.4 Gsps / 1.5 GHz with current max throughput up to 5 Gbps in the ESA research project User Terminal Wideband Modem for Very High Throughput Satellites (VHTS). The novel aspects of this research and development project include the DVB-S2X demodulator and the high-speed LDPC FEC decoder.
