Baroness Prashar of Runnymede

Baroness Prashar is involved with a number of distinguished organisations. She is currently President of the Royal Commonwealth Society, a Trustee of Cumberland Lodge, Deputy Chair of the British Council and Patron of the Runnymede Trust.

Chris Warwick

Chris Warwick MRICS is a chartered quantity surveyor who works for a large heritage charity. He is particularly interested in buildings and the stories they can tell over time. Chris is a member of the English Civil War Society and has participated in events all over the UK. Chris has lived locally since 2002.

Dr Matthew Smith - Chairman

  • Senior Fellow in Public History at Royal Holloway
Dr Matthew Smith is a Senior Fellow in Public History at Royal Holloway, University of London, and was Curator of Egham Museum between 2012 and 2016. Matthew is currently leading Royal Holloway's Heritage Lottery Fund supported Citizens project which helps school and college students better understand how the relationship between the citizen and the state has developed in Britain over the last 800 years.

Margaret Stewart

A retired Librarian, Margaret joined the Museum in 2017 as Tiki-Toki Timeline Coordinator and subsequently also joined the team of stewards. With a particular interest in the history of education and literacy, she also loves researching and writing about some of the forgotten episodes in local history. She has developed two exhibitions: "Educating Egham," about local schools, and "Location, Location, Location," exploring the use of the area as a location for films and TV. She contributed to "Our Changing High Street" and "Women: Wives, Workers & War" projects as well as taking part in 2018's suffrage plays.

Natalie Lane

Natalie has a degree in History and American Studies and, after graduating, worked in academic Journals publishing. Natalie then became a freelance copyeditor after her first daughter was born. Natalie lives in Chertsey and enjoyed dusting off her research skills by first helping to uncover information about the local Suffrage movement during our ‘Suffrage in Egham' project, followed by the ‘Women, Wives, Workers, War‘ and ‘Health, Holloway and Hype‘ projects.

Philip Hammond MP

Philip Hammond has been MP for Runnymede and Weybridge since 1997. He tells us why he chose to become a patron of Egham Museum: "As Egham's local MP, I was asked to become a Patron of the Museum in 2012, in the run up to the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta on Runnymede Meadows in 1215. I have decided to lend my support to the Museum because of the important work it does locally and because of the proactive role it has adopted in respect of raising awareness and understanding of the importance of the events of June 1215.

Vivian Bairstow - Chairman

Vivian Bairstow (Chairman) was Honorary Treasurer of Egham-by-Runnymede Historical Society (‘EBRHS') from 1972 to 1991 and was one of the founding Trustees of The Egham Museum Trust (‘TEMT') from 1979 to 1991, but with additional responsibilities for local conservation for EBRHS and the acquisition of objects by TEMT following several public appeals. From 2002 to date, he has acted as Chairman of TEMT. He was brought up in Egham from the age of one and continues to live locally. He has had a career in Chartered Accountancy specialising in insolvency. He is a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Coopers which has strong local associations. He is the author of 5 local history books.
