Benjamin R. Pulley

Dr. Pulley is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic trauma surgeon and hip reconstruction specialist. He joined the Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville in 2018 and has served as president since 2021. Dr. Pulley has expertise in treating complex skeletal injuries, including periarticular and long bone fractures, pelvis and acetabular fractures, multiple extremity trauma, periprosthetic fractures, and fracture nonunions. He performs joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee and has special training in anterior total hip replacement as well as total hip revision surgery. Dr. Pulley grew up in Lancaster, New York and then attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio for his undergraduate studies, where he graduated cum laude and earned a Bachelor of Science with honors. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and subsequently performed his orthopaedic residency training at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Pulley completed additional fellowship training at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California with a focus on orthopaedic trauma and hip reconstruction surgery. Dr. Pulley is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, AOTrauma North America, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Pulley sees patients in the Zanesville office and is a member of the medical staff at Northpointe Surgical Suites, Mount Carmel New Albany Surgical Hospital, Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, and Genesis Hospital. Dr. Pulley enjoys trail running and exploring the National Parks with his family.

Brad E. Brautigan

Dr. Brad Brautigan has been with Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville since 2000. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from West Virginia Wesleyan College. He graduated Doctor of Medicine in 1994 from West Virginia University. Brautigan completed his orthopaedic residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and his sports medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Brautigan is a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic surgeons.

Derek Snook

Dr. Snook completed his Bachelor of Science from Indiana University South Bend graduating Summa cum Laude. He then completed his medical doctorate with honors while receiving several merit-based scholarships at Indiana University including the prestigious Pittman Surgical Scholarship. He was appointed the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society. His orthopedic surgery residency was completed at Akron General Medical Center, now part of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the San Francisco Spine Institute in 2003. Since coming to Columbus, he helped build the largest orthopedic practice in Ohio. He is elated to now be a part of a world recognized center, Joint Implant Surgeons. Dr. Snook has completed several research projects during his tenure that have been published in textbooks and peer reviewed journals. He has presented research at the International Society for Study of the Lumbar Spine, the North American Spine Society, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. From 2002-2018 he was a faculty member of the Mount Carmel Orthopedic Residency. He has instructed and mentored many orthopedic residents, family practice residents, internal medicine residents, medical students, and physician-assistant students. He is a member of the North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery Dr. Snook has served the Mt. Carmel Health System as a physician leader. He has been a past Vice President of Orthopedic Surgery at Mt Carmel East, Chairman of Surgery at Mt Carmel New Albany 2015 and 2016. He is currently chairmen of the Medical Peer Review Committee and president elect of the medical staff there. He also is part of the co-management team with his colleagues and Mt. Carmel Health System. Although his practice includes non-operative management of spinal conditions, his practice is focused on surgical treatment and procedural treatment of spinal conditions. His interests are less invasive surgery including the use of the microscope. Due to this, he was able to help start White Fence Surgical Suites with his partners where he has performed hundreds of outpatient spinal surgeries. Dr. Keith Berend

Dr. Keith Berend, a native of Columbus, Ohio, graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1988. He received his undergraduate from Florida Southern College with honors. He completed his medical doctorate and orthopaedic residency at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Berend completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction of the Hip and Knee at Joint Implant Surgeons, Inc., with Dr. Thomas H. Mallory, MD, and Adolph V. Lombardi, Jr., MD. He joined that practice in 2003 and was a founding physician of New Albany Surgical Hospital. Dr. Berend was a Hip Society-British Hip Society Traveling Fellow in 2004 and a John N. Insall Knee Society Traveling Fellow in 2005. Dr. Berend is the author of over 180 scholarly articles He is also a member of the Knee Society and the Hip Society, the highest honors bestowed upon a surgeon with those respective specialties. Dr. Berend and his brother, Mike Berend, MD together sponsor and host the Emily Berend Adult Reconstruction Symposium at Duke University. He is also a volunteer surgeon for Operation Walk Midwest, a charitable organization which provides free surgical treatment for patients in developing countries. He and Dr. Lombardi founded Operation Joint Implant, which then became Operation Walk USA, a nationwide charitable program that provides qualified patients with free hip and knee replacement surgery. In 2013 he received the award for Leaders in Total Joint Replacement: Generation Next. He has been named to the list of the Top 22 Knee Surgeons in North America Dr. Berend is a car enthusiast, fisherman and an active cyclist. He has competed in the Race Across the West, a 900 mile endurance cycling race with three other teammates and Race Across America, a 3000 mile race, with 7 teammates. He and his wife, Cindy, have two daughters, Taylor and Molly. Taylor attends the University of Cincinnati and Molly attends Florida Southern College.

Jason M. Hurst

Jason M. Hurst, M.D., leads the Shoulder Reconstruction division at JIS Orthopedics. He received his bachelor's degree from Washington & Lee University and his medical degree from Georgetown University where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his orthopaedic residency training at Duke University where he also worked in sports medicine research. Dr. Hurst has also completed two different fellowship programs: a fellowship in joint preservation, sports medicine, shoulder, knee, and hip arthroscopy, and shoulder reconstruction at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado and an adult reconstruction fellowship focused on total and partial knee arthroplasty at Joint Implant Surgeons. Dr. Hurst is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Piedmont Society, and he is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Hurst's clinical interests include anatomic and reverse shoulder arthroplasty and minimally invasive total and partial knee replacement as well as arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee including rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, and joint preservation techniques. He is also eagerly involved in the development of rapid recovery pathways for outpatient total joint arthroplasty. Dr. Hurst has a particular interest in product development and he is one of 5 international design surgeons for patient-specific instrumentation for shoulder arthroplasty, and one of 12 surgeons in the US selected to participate in FDA trials of novel less-invasive total shoulder implants. Dr. Hurst lives in New Albany with his wife and two young children. He is an avid golfer and skier.

Jordan Bonier

Dr. Bonier is a board-certified and fellowship-trained adult reconstruction orthopaedic surgeon that focuses on joint replacement, joint preservation, and general orthopedics, with a particular interest in minimally invasive and muscle-sparing procedures. He attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio for his undergraduate studies, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in molecular genetics. Dr. Bonier then went on to graduate from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2014, where he earned his doctorate in osteopathic medicine. He completed residency training at LECOM Health in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he served as chief resident. During his residency training, he earned a master of science degree in medical education. He completed additional fellowship training in adult reconstruction and total joint replacement at The Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed research publications and has published several chapters in orthopedic textbooks. When not caring for his patients, Dr. Bonier enjoys spending time with his wife and children, as well as playing guitar, golfing, listening to music, and hiking.

Michael Morris

Dr. Morris received his bachelor's degree in Economics and Business from Lafayette College in Easton, PA. He began his professional career working for a large investment bank in New York City. After leaving the financial world, he completed a post-baccalaureate program in Health Professions at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his medical doctorate, with honors, from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed orthopaedic residency training at Duke University where he received the John M. Harrelson Chief Resident Teaching award. Dr. Morris subsequently completed a Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction of the hip and knee with Drs. Lombardi and Berend at Joint Implant Surgeons. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the International Congress of Joint Replacement. He is a member of the Piedmont Orthopedic Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. Dr. Morris is a volunteer surgeon for Operation Walk, a charitable organization that provides medical education and free surgical care in developing countries. Dr. Morris lives in central Ohio with his wife and three children. He enjoys golfing, skiing, and traveling.

Steven H. Kimberly

Dr. Steven Kimberly completed his undergraduate degree at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Kimberly received his Doctor of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, graduating Cum Laude. He completed his residency in the Grand Rapids Orthopaedic Surgery Program and has been with Orthopaedic Associates of Zanesville since 1995. Kimberly specializes in general orthopaedics, total joint replacements, including partial knee replacements, carpal tunnel and fracture care. Dr. Kimberly is also a member of the Ohio Orthopaedic Society, a member of the Ohio State Medical Association and a fellow for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He and his wife have two children and are active members of First Christian Church in Zanesville.
