Kayla Poor

Kathryne (Kayla) Poor is thrilled to be joining the team at Denmark High School as the Assistant Director of Bands during the 2020-2021 school year. Previously, Ms. Poor served as the Director of Band and Choir at River Ridge Academy in Bluffton, South Carolina for two years. She was responsible for teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels of middle school band, chorus, and general music. Under her direction, the band program received ratings of "Superior" at performance assessment. At the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year, Ms. Poor created the school's first chorus program which saw significant growth since its origination. Ms. Poor holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. She received two collegiate music scholarships: a horn performance scholarship and The University of Florida Friends of Music Scholarship. While at the University of Florida, Ms. Poor studied with the renowned horn performer, composer, and educator, Dr. Paul Basler. She also performed in various ensembles throughout her collegiate years including marching band, symphonic band, symphonic orchestra, pit orchestra for the university musical, basketball band, volleyball band, and horn choir. Ms. Poor has several years of experience both performing and teaching drum corps. In 2015, she marched with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps as a lead mellophone. She has served for three years as a high brass instructor for the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, and is currently Assistant Brass Caption Head. Ms. Poor has also worked with numerous high school bands by helping with instruction, pedagogy, design, and choreography. Ms. Poor assisted May River High School to their first invitation to the South Carolina State Finals for marching band.

Mr. Vincent Sneed

Mr. Vincent Sneed is the Band Director of Denmark High School in Forsyth County, Georgia. The band program has 3 concert ensembles, marching band, jazz band, winter guard, indoor percussion, and various smaller ensembles. The band has received superior ratings and many best in class honors across the state of Georgia. He was selected as Teacher of the Month in May of 2019. Prior to his appointment at Denmark, Mr. Sneed served as Director of Bands at Heritage High School in Conyers, GA. While serving as Band Director at Heritage, his groups earned superior ratings in both concert and marching band including grand champion. He also led 2 jazz bands that performed at collegiate jazz festivals and local arts festivals. Mr. Sneed was selected with the honor teacher award in 2016 and 2017 at the Superintendent's Award ceremony in the Rockdale County School District. His bands have performed across the country including in California, Washington DC, and Florida. Students in his groups were selected to perform in both All-State Symphonic and Concert Bands, All-State Jazz Band, the Governor's Honors Program and other honor ensembles across the country. Prior to Heritage High School, Mr. Sneed worked as the Band Director for Hardaway High School in the Muscogee County School District, a system he worked in for 8 years. During his tenure, his groups consistently earned superior ratings in concert and marching band, as well as, best in class awards in all captions of marching band. In 2012, he was selected as the Teacher of the Year for the Muscogee County School District and was chosen as the STAR Teacher for Hardaway High School in 2013. Prior to Muscogee County, he worked as a Band Director in Albany, Georgia. He is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association and also works as a minister of music.
