Gary Jerkins

Dr. Jerkins is a native of Nashville. He completed his undergraduate work at David Lipscomb University followed by medical school at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. After an internship at Methodist Hospital, Dr. Jerkins completed his residency at the University of Tennessee Department of Ophthalmology in Memphis. Dr. Jerkins' comprehensive ophthalmology practice began in 1982, focusing on cataract surgery and contact lens care. He also serves as a Principle Investigator for a variety of FDA-approved clinical trials. His career includes numerous leadership roles and appointments within the ophthalmology community. Since 1996 his recurring trips to Ukraine have allowed him to share his faith through medical and humanitarian efforts. In 2010 Dr. Jerkins founded SeaStarKids, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that sponsors a summer Bible camp, monthly outings, and university scholarships to underprivileged Ukrainian young people. Dr. Jerkins joined the Loden Vision team in January of 2019, bringing over 40 years of experience to Loden Vision Centers. Many thanks to Doctor Loden and his amazing staff! They made something that would otherwise be very intimidating very comforting. Their professionalism and service was off the charts. I am one day post surgery and am pain free and can see better than I have for twenty years. I would recommend them to anyone!

Dr. Loden is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology. As a board-certified ophthalmologist and a fellowship-trained LASIK and cataracts specialist, Dr. Loden is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. James C. Loden is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Loden is carrying on the family tradition set forth by his father, Dr. James P. Loden, who was a nationally recognized eye surgeon. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. Residing in Nashville with his wife and 2 children, Dr. Loden is an avid outdoorsman and conservationist. Dr. Loden is very active in the community and supports local youth sports teams along with many charitable organizations. Dr. Loden serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology. He was the very first surgeon in Tennessee to perform the Cataract Surgery and lectures to surgeons worldwide.

Katie Mills

Dr. Mills is a board-certified ophthalmologist and LASIK and cataracts specialist. Additionally, she is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Memphis Eye Society. Dr. Katie Mills completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Anthropology at Rice University in Houston, Texas. She then received her Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. She completed her internship at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and completed her ophthalmology residency at the Hamilton Eye Institute at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee where she was named Chief Resident. Dr. Mills is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Memphis Eye Society. Dr. Mills is a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and LASIK surgery. Dr. Mills has been a part of the Loden Vision family since September of 2013. Many thanks to Doctor Loden and his amazing staff! Terrence Doherty

Dr. Doherty is a board-certified ophthalmologist, a fellowship-trained LASIK surgeon, and serves as one of Loden Vision Centers' primary LASIK and cataract surgery specialists. As a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, Dr. Doherty has extensive experience with laser eye surgery. Additionally, he is also certified by the American College of Eye Surgeons, and the first surgeon in Tennessee to perform IntraLase Enabled Keratoplasty (IEK). Upon receiving his medical degree, summa cum laude, from St. Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Terrence Doherty completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. While at Case Western, Dr. Doherty was promoted to Chief Resident of Ophthalmology and established the Surgical Video Teaching conference for the residency program. After his residency, Dr. Doherty completed his Cornea and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Doherty is a board-certified ophthalmologist, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, The Cornea Society, and the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology. He has been published and lectured on numerous occasions, assisted in surgical training programs for other ophthalmologists at national meetings, and is an active member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AΩA) Medical Honor Society. Dr. Doherty has been with Loden Vision Centers since 2007 and remains at the forefront of technological development with regards to corneal transplants and refractive surgeries, including the bladeless LASIK procedure. He was the first surgeon in the state of Tennessee to perform cornea transplants using the femtosecond laser, a technique called Intralase® Enabled Keratoplasty (IEK). He also regularly performs Descemet's Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK), a partial thickness suture-free corneal transplant for patients with certain types of corneal diseases such as Fuch's Dystrophy. Each year Dr. Doherty does hundreds of cataract surgeries, using the most advanced intraocular lens technology and manages a wide variety of glaucoma patients. He has also traveled to Haiti where he performed cataract surgeries as part of a mission trip for the Surgical Eye Expeditions (SEE) Foundation. Dr. Doherty and his wife, also an eye doctor, have three daughters and live in the Nashville area, where they are active members of their church and community. They are avid music lovers and enjoy cooking as well as a variety of outdoor actives including soccer and golf. Dr. Doherty has been serving patients at Loden Vision Centers since September of 2007.
