Chuck Burkell

Job Titles:

I have seen people cry; shake their heads in disbelief; gaze in wonderment, and of course ask many questions, as they attempt to understand why. It is this emotional experience that leads to reflection and application, and encourages participants to apply what they've learned, both professionally and personally, as they also recognize that the struggles of 1863 mirror and resonate with the challenges and struggles of today. Chuck Burkell serves as a Gettysburg Leadership Experience (GLE) consultant and facilitator, and as a Licensed Battlefield Guide at the Gettysburg National Military Park. He also serves as a battlefield guide for selected GLE modules. Recognizing that different objectives call for different methods, Chuck continually works to identify the most optimal and effective instruction style for the moment and context at hand, consistently delivering valuable learning through both classroom and battlefield sessions. Chuck's background in public sector leadership development includes interacting with thousands of managers and executives in many different organizations, which has equipped him well to deliver satisfying, individualized GLE sessions.

Jeff Harding

Job Titles:
  • Instructor
The hallowed ground that is Gettysburg provides a perfect environment for participants to fully understand the leadership lessons highlighted in the course modules. The importance cannot be overstated. The old learning adage applies better at Gettysburg, on the battlefield where men fought and died, than perhaps anywhere else: ‘I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.' The ‘I do' of GLE, the ultimate power of the entire program, is only realized through the battlefield visits. Jeff Harding is a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg National Military Park where his animated and personable style serves to engage Gettysburg Leadership Experience (GLE) participants from their first interaction. His approach has been honed over his 21 years with the Park during which he's led thousands of visitors on tours of the battlefield. He believes strongly in the importance of this process of tying classroom lessons to the actual battlefield upon which examples of these lessons were realized. He recently retired from a 33-year career as a civilian employee of the Department of the Navy.

John Regentin

Job Titles:

My goal is to create a proactive and interactive experience for our participants. Setting the stage early for the lessons to come helps participants focus their thinking. That can mean asking some provocative yet pointed questions, but always tying back to the leadership lessons we're covering. We also address individual expectations of and goals for the Experience, explore ways to achieve those and engage everyone in the discussions. John Regentin is the Director of the Gettysburg Leadership Experience (GLE) for FCCS. He has broad experience in leading diverse experiential learning programs and brings extensive facilitation skills to his sessions. His focus is on engaging participants and encouraging their professional growth and leadership insights. John is also a senior consultant with FCCS in the Learning and Consulting practice area. He has more than 25 years of leadership development, consultation, and group facilitation for local, state and federal agencies. In addition, John's background includes organizational management, curriculum development, logistical oversight and risk assessment. He oversaw the delivery of experiential programs and expeditions in 45 domestic and 20 international locations for over 25,000 participants.

Scott Taylor

Job Titles:
  • Instructor
I've spent a fair part of my career training and developing educators, so part of what I bring to Gettysburg Leadership Experience participants is an understanding of how adults learn and what the process requires in terms of effective program design and facilitation. I've had the chance to design and facilitate a variety of leadership programs and am able to draw on the work I've done across sectors to help all participants find relevance and meaning in the topics we cover. Learning in advance about each Gettysburg Leadership Experience participant group's industry allows facilitator Scott Taylor to identify their shared dilemmas, draw parallels with the experience of Gettysburg leaders, and develop discussion points to connect GLE lessons with modern-day challenges. "My style is interactive and engaging, and most importantly invites participants to think for themselves," Scott says. "I like to ask questions and encourage participants to think critically and discuss their shared experiences so they're able to identify how to move themselves, their teams and their organizations forward in a way that lives out values and improves performance."

Susan Eisenhower

Job Titles:
  • Instructor
Working with the Gettysburg Leadership Experience (GLE) for 15 years, Susan Eisenhower brings the leadership lessons from the Battle of Gettysburg into the 20th century by discussing the life and leadership legacy of Dwight D. Eisenhower, two-term US President from 1953 - 1961 and Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War Two, and also Susan's grandfather. Her conversational style is full of relevant illustrations and stories of significant moments in leadership. Following her leadership conversation, Susan brings participants to visit her grandparents' farm in Gettysburg. "It's an honor to take groups of the caliber who attend GLE to my grandparents' farm, where I spent so much meaningful time growing up," Susan says. "It was the center of our family life while our grandparents were alive, and I'm one of only four people who still spend time there."

Terry Fox

Job Titles:
  • Instructor
As a sixth-generation resident of Gettysburg, the historic battlefield holds special meaning for field guide Terry Fox, and it's no surprise that he is both a Battlefield Guide Emeritus of the Gettysburg National Military Park and was part of the team that designed the Gettysburg Leadership Experience (GLE). In fact, he's spent his entire career teaching American History, with 26 of his 33 years of teaching spent in Gettysburg schools. Today, he brings his expertise to GLE participants, leading them out to the battlefield.
