Dr. David J. Paolini

Dr. David Paolini is a Vascular Surgeon with over 15 years of Vascular Surgery experience. Dr. Paolini recently joined Western Vascular Institute as one of our acclaimed vascular surgeons from the Jobst vascular center in Toledo, Ohio. Dr. Paolini has had a passion for medicine and physics from a young age, feeling that Vascular Surgery is the perfect combination of the two scientific areas. Dr. Paolini completed his medical school training at Temple University (One of the best Medical Schools in the united states) in 1999 and thereafter moved to New Mexico to begin his residency at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center Department of Surgery. After completing a 5-year surgical residency Dr. Paolini then moved to Toledo, Ohio to complete a Vascular Surgery specific fellowship at the prestigious Jobst Vascular Center. Dr. Paolini quickly gained accolades as one of the most innovative and competent vascular surgeons in the area as well as being heavily invested in Vascular Surgery research and publications. Dr. Paolini's care philosophy is "to take care of patients like you would want your kids taken care of". As a father of two wonderful children and supported by his beautiful wife Dr. Paolini is poised to join the ranks of the great caring vascular surgeons here at Western Vascular Institute. Dr. Dawn Olsen

Dr. Olsen is a Vascular Surgeon who has devoted herself to caring for those with vascular disease. Initially, she became a vascular Physician Assistant (PA) at the Arizona Heart Institute (AHI) under the tutelage of the world-recognized surgeon, Dr. Edward B. Diethrich. She realized her passion for vascular medicine and in 2008 returned to medical school. Dr. Olsen is residency-trained in open and endovascular venous and arterial surgery, completing her training at the University at Buffalo. She is also certified in both wound care and non-invasive vascular ultrasound. Dr. Olsen has co-authored nearly 30 publications as well as book chapters and has presented at meetings in the United States and abroad. Having 20+ years of diverse experience, she calls the Phoenix Valley home and helps improve the lives of those with vascular disease.

Dr. Julio Rodriguez Lopez

Dr. Rodriguez is an internationally renowned vascular surgeon who has devoted his life to Vascular education, research, and teaching. He is a highly skilled bilingual surgeon who specializes in the aggressive treatment of Vascular Disease. He received his Vascular fellowship at the Arizona Heart Institute and the Phoenix Regional Medical Center. As part of his advanced wound care training, Dr. Rodriguez received his certification in hyperbaric medicine at the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. He served as the Director of the Vascular & Endovascular Fellowship Training Program at the Arizona Heart Institute under the tutelage of the world-recognized surgeon, Dr. Edward B. Diethrich, and was the Director of the Arizona Heart Hospital (AHI) Wound Center from 1998 until 2015. Dr. Rodriguez spent nearly twenty years as the Instructor of the Endovascular Surgery intermediate and advanced training program at both Columbia Medical Center and the Arizona Heart Hospital. He also served as an Assistant Professor at Midwestern University teaching for many years. He has been a guest speaker at several international medical symposiums. In addition to his educational speaking engagements, Dr. Rodriguez has authored multiple book chapters along with works that have been published worldwide in over eighty major peer-reviewed journals from 1992-current.

Dr. Mitar Vranic - CEO, Founder

Dr. Vranic, is the CEO and founder of Western Vascular Institute. Dr Vranic realized his passion for medicine and Vascular Surgery specifically as a young child in Indiana. Dr. Vranic was hit by a car while riding his bike as a 9yr old and received severe trauma to his foot nearly severing it. His father rushed him to the hospital where the orthopedic surgeons told his mother and father that they would have to remove his foot. Vranic's father wanted a second opinion and met a vascular surgeon who was able to repair the blood vessels and reattach his foot. After spending time recovering at home young Vranic posted a hand-drawn picture on his bedroom door that read "Dr. Mitar Vranic, Vascular Surgeon" as this man who had saved his foot was now his hero. This experience as a child and his passion for learning & excellence led him to be one of the most innovative and creative vascular surgeons in the country. Dr Vranic is Board certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Surgery and Fellowship trained in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery as well as holding a certification in wound care. Dr. Vranic completed two vascular surgery fellowships, one traditional fellowship following his residency in general surgery at Ohio University in Columbus, and an additional fellowship at the Arizona Heart Institute where he learned cutting edge minimally invasive endovascular techniques from his mentor, AHI founder, & world-recognized surgeon, Dr. Edward B. Diethrich. As part of his advanced training as a vascular surgeon, Dr. Vranic received certification as a wound care specialist and hyperbaric oxygen specialist through extensive training in the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. Dr. Vranic is a Board Examiner of Vascular Surgery for both oral and written examinations and has been for over ten years at Midwestern University, Dr. Vranic has certification in Non-invasive Vascular Duplex/Ultrasound as well as Trauma Ultrasound. He has publications in many major peer-reviewed journals and serves as the abstract reviewer in the Journal of Vascular Surgery. Doctor Vranic has a taught at Midwestern University as an Assistant Professor and is the educational program director for training of Vascular Surgeon physicians nationwide.
