Abbeyknockmoy Camogie Club first came into existence in 1968, playing its first game at junior level July of that year. The club continued into the 1970s with particular emphesis in the schools by way of parish leagues. There was a renewed interest in camogie in the parish during the 1990s and the club was reformed with Maureen Fahy as Chairperson. However by the late 1990s the club was not in a position to continue. The current club was re-established in 2011 and is going from strength to strength... Abbeyknockmoy (Mainistir Chnoc Muaidhe) village is itself steeped in history. It is named after the Cistercian Abbey which was established in the 12 th century courtesy of their benefactors, the Kings of Connacht. The Abbey was the burial site of King Cathal Crobhdhearg Ua Conchobair. It contains some of the finest examples of medieval wall paintings and sculpture.
