Alex Kaye

Alex joined Temple in November 2014 as an IT Support Technician. Now as IT Manager, Alex carries responsibility for the implementation of the Temple Online Policy system.

Amy Edgington

Amy has been with Temple since 2001 and is a founding member of the TOPS team. She supported developers in producing the straightforward TOPS quote/policy process you see today and continues to assist with its evolution. She provides underwriting support for the Commercial ATE team. She also manages our underwriting assistants. Amy is committed to providing the highest levels of service for Temple's customers and her role includes the swift and efficient creation of quotes, issuance of policies and fielding of enquiries. She is currently studying the CILEX exams to develop her knowledge of the legal system.'

Andy Lyalle

Andy has worn many hats in the legal services sector for nearly thirty years and is our Senior Business Development Manager. Based in our Bristol office but working nationwide, Andy enjoys meeting existing and potential clients ready to discuss our ATE insurance and disbursement funding products. He will listen to your requirements and work with you and liaise with our team to ensure we add value to your business - develop opportunities, overcoming obstacles and steering you in the right direction are Andy's stock-in-trade. Working predominantly in the Commercial Dispute Resolution team, Andy is also pleased to talk to you about our BTE Employment Protection Schemes plus our personal injury and clinical negligence ATE Insurance and disbursement funding products.

Catherine Shearman

Catherine joined Temple in October 2019 and works as a Financial Analyst as part of the the Business Support Team. She achieved a high A-Level grade in law, which has helped give her a deeper understanding of her role, the business, and its clients. She has developed her financial analysis expertise through her experience working within the Business Support team thus enabling her to develop her skill set further. Catherine is responsible for assisting with the monthly reconciliation of Temple's accounts and works closely with the Finance Director to ensure our accounting of premiums is accurate and up to date. She also assists with credit control and provides support across departments where needed and this is where Catherine takes real pride in delivering to a high level. She hopes to continue to build expertise across the company, to help her achieve both personal and business goals.

Chris Wait - Chairman

Chris began his insurance career in 1985 and has been specifically involved in legal expenses insurance since 1992. He has been a significant force in the development of the ATE insurance market -being the individual underwriter who made decisions on many landmark cases, such as Callery v Gray, Sawar v Alam, Tilby v Perfect Pizza and Musa King v Telegraph Newspapers. As the founding Managing Director of Temple Legal Protection, Chris personally introduced innovations such as deferred premiums and stepped premiums for ATE insurance, plus insurance-backed employment schemes available to law firms. His influence has also been exerted in consultations with the Civil Justice Council and Department of Justice to help develop the ATE insurance market. Chris was Temple's Managing Director from the company's formation until 2019, during which time the company grew to write over £50million GWP per annum. In June 2019 Chris became Chairman of the board of directors and continues to be a role-model and mentor to all the Temple staff at their two offices while providing leadership to the board of directors and strategic support to the Managing Director. Chris uses his vast experience to challenge and inspire the company to continue to deliver the first-class support, service and expertise that Temple's customers deserve and have come to expect.

David Pipkin

David Stoker

David joined Temple in August 2015 having previously been an underwriter for another ATE insurance provider for nearly 9 years dealing with all aspects of personal injury work. David's experience allows him to undertake a key role in Temple's ATE insurance personal injury and clinical negligence teams. He also participates in the assessments of delegated schemes that Temple provide with the objective of helping our customers make the most of the products and services Temple has to offer. David has a LLB honours degree in law and also completed the Legal Practice Course at Guildford College of Law obtaining a commendation. He has worked as a personal injury case handler for 2 firms of solicitors post-graduation before moving into LEI.

Fraser Barnstaple

Fraser Barnstaple Fraser is an underwriter within the Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence and Commercial teams. He joined Temple in May 2022 following the completion of his LLM Laws degree at University College London. The study of litigation funding and dispute resolution during his masters led to his interest in the legal insurance industry and in working for Temple. Fraser graduated in 2021 with a First-Class LLB Law (Hons) degree from the University of Leicester. Alongside his role at Temple, he currently studies part-time at City, University of London on the Bar Vocational Studies course with the assistance of various scholarships, including one from The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn. Fraser's academic background has given him a vast knowledge base in numerous areas of law, which allows him to be versatile in dealing with whatever legal issues may arise. He strives to provide support throughout the legal process through a speedy, efficient and accurate underwriting service.

Jeanette Hall

Jeanette is an experienced Executive Assistant, highly organised and adaptable with a wide level of experience developed within a variety of roles and industries, covering HR, travel, project support, project reporting, time keeping, purchasing, invoicing, finance and customer services. Jeanette is skilled in Operations Management, Facility Management (FM), Team Building, Invoice Finance, and Project Coordination. A strong administrative professional with a BA (Hons) Arts with a specific interest in History.

Joanne Lane

Joanne joined Temple in 2000 after achieving a law degree at Birmingham and Diploma in Legal Practice at Nottingham Law School. Whilst working at Temple she has continued her academic qualifications achieving a distinction in the CII Diploma in Insurance. Her experience of underwriting a variety of litigation risks and dealing with claims means that our customers have the benefit of her broad knowledge of the application of insurance principles. She has played a key role in developing Temple's delegated authority schemes to provide our customers with maximum flexibility and authority to meet their clients' needs. She complements this customer focus with a responsibility to maintain our business relationship with our insurance provider.

John Durbin

John joined Temple in June 2022 and brings with him over 19 years' experience in the legal expenses industry, with 17 of these specifically relating to ATE insurance. As Senior Business Development Manager, John's role has him covering the breadth of the UK, meeting with Temple's existing business partners as well as establishing new business relationships. Whilst his primary focus is growing and developing our clinical negligence and personal injury offerings, which can include disbursement funding, he is also very able to discuss Temple's commercial and BTE products. John is well known in the industry for making business partners feel at ease when they meet. He prides himself on understanding customers' needs and being able to work collaboratively, which frequently results in established working relationships for many years.

Jonathan Wilde

Jonathan joined Temple Legal Protection in March 2014 having worked in the claims industry for over 14 years. His previous experience includes working within the credit hire industry working for a leading credit hire organisation. He also has a wealth of experience in the Personal Lines insurance sector working for large well-known Motor Insurers. Throughout Jonathan's time at Temple he has developed his career through providing Business Support/Credit Control Services to providing operational support to the company. It is with this wealth of knowledge and experience that he will deliver effective operational support for Temple Legal Protection, with a professional and friendly approach that will help support the company and our clients alike.

Katie Lunn

Katie joined Temple in March 2022 as an administrator within the business support team. Katie has come into the company with a considerable amount of administration experience and a keen interest in the legal sector. She is looking to expand and develop her knowledge, with the opportunities temple can offer. Within the business support team she assists with accounts and is hoping to build on her skills within this area as she progresses in her role. She also helps with credit control and investigating aged cases, which provides support to the underwriting team by giving relevant information about the cases we are insuring.

Laurence Pipkin - Managing Director

Laurence started at Temple Legal Protection in 2006 where he was IT Manager until 2017, when promotion to Operations Director saw him join the board of the company. This was followed in June 2019 with his appointment as Managing Director to succeed Chris Wait, the founding MD. Following in those footsteps was a challenge relished by Laurence, and one with the full support of Chris, who became Chairman of the board of directors. Laurence's hands-on experience at the heart of the business running the IT systems over many years and his proven expertise in a fast-moving ATE/litigation insurance market has contributed to the respected position in the market place Temple now occupies. Resting on laurels is not Laurence's style. His passion and determination to provide market-leading legal expenses insurance products and a total commitment to customer service for partner law firms and brokers put him in the ideal position to lead the business. Prominent litigators, contemporaries and colleagues speak of Laurence's sound commercial judgement, technical excellence and agility in product development - all backed by a commitment to robust underwriting principles. This has led to Temple building long-term commercial relationships with leading law firms in the commercial litigation, clinical negligence and personal injury sectors. Laurence is a Chartered Insurance Practitioner, and associate member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Lisa Fricker

Lisa has over 15 year's experience in the Legal Insurance industry, having worked for both DAS Legal Expenses and ARAG Legal Services. She has extensive knowledge of both the BTE and ATE markets, with her most recent role of Claims Auditor, providing her with greater insight into the inner workings of a legal firm. Lisa is used to working closely with solicitors to develop and maintain good working relationships, leading to positive partnerships for all parties. Lisa joined Temple in 2017 to manage the internal and external review process, as well as overseeing our BTE panel arrangements. In her role as Solicitor Services Manager, Lisa will be focused on ensuring that the quality of service provided by Temple remains at the highest standard.

Lucy Harding

Lucy has over 15 years experience of working in front line customer service within the insurance industry. Her experience in Life Insurance companies included all aspects of policy administration and direct involvement with the public through her work in an in-bound call centre. She joined Temple's Business Support Team in 2005 since when she has worked with our customers mainly on claims handling. Lucy's experiences mean that her approach to her responsibilities is instinctively customer-centred. She is a key person in ensuring that Temple meets its goal of treating customers not only fairly but also with courtesy, efficiency and understanding.

Mandy Dimmer

Mandy joined Temple in October 2014 as Senior Underwriting Assistant within the Underwriting Support Team and has recently been promoted to Assistant Underwriting Support Manager. Mandy's role is to provide support to the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence team by issuing quotations, policies and endorsements, organising and attending external reviews, and contributing to the smooth running of the team. In addition Mandy also assists with the day to day administration in respect of Temple Funding. She brings with her nine years of experience with a previous ATE provider. Mandy has recently gained her Certificate in Insurance and is now Cert CII.

Matthew Best

Matt has an insurance background and joined Temple in July 2011 having worked for 4 years in a leading insurance company where he was dealing with personal injury work. Matt's experience allows him to undertake a key role in Temple's ATE insurance personal injury and clinical negligence teams. He also participates in the assessments of delegated schemes that Temple provide with the objective of helping our customers make the most beneficial and appropriate use of ATE insurance. He has started studying for this CII exams which he will sit in the near future, which he will then use to develop himself, further into the company in order to provide Temple's customers with the excellent service they expect.

Matthew Pascall

Matthew Pascall Barrister Matthew Pascall joined the commercial team at Temple Legal Protection, as Senior Underwriting Manager in November 2017. Matthew was called to the Bar in 1984 and joined Guildford Chambers two years later. Spending more than 30 years in practice there, he has comprehensive knowledge and experience of the commercial legal sector and is listed in the current Legal 500 as a Tier 1 barrister. Previously Matthew had been providing ongoing consultancy services to Temple Legal Protection for some time and therefore has prior insight into the company and established productive relationships with our clients. His knowledge of the commercial legal sector and litigation practice is invaluable to the business and our clients, providing specialist experience to lead the commercial litigation insurance team.

Nicholas Ellor

Nicholas is a Senior Underwriter within the commercial underwriting team. Prior to joining Temple, Nicholas had over twenty years' experience working as a solicitor in London on both contentious and non-contentious company commercial and corporate matters. Having been a practitioner, he is fully aware of the pressure and time constraints a commercial litigator has to operate under and brings that expertise insights to the table and provides a fast, highly professional service. His experience and knowledge enhance our teams' abilities to quickly and expertly assess claims and to provide intelligent and timely support throughout the legal process.

Paul Bonner

Paul has 35 years' experience in the insurance industry, the last 30 years of which have been exclusively in legal expenses insurance. He joined Temple from The Legal Protection Group Ltd (later First Assist Ltd) where he was Head of Claims. Since joining Temple, he has been involved with its customers in the development of the whole range of the company's products and services. This experience means that he has a deep understanding of customers' requirements in all aspects of personal injury, clinical negligence and commercial litigation insurance, and the proven ability to match Temple's products and services to their needs.

Peter Cornish

Peter has spent 40 years as a Personal Injury Lawyer specialising in all types of Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence litigation. He has worked solely as a claimant litigator pursuing industrial accidents, asbestos disease cases and a mixture of clinical negligence cases. He has been involved in numerous multi-track cases and has won compensation for his clients in excess of 10 million pounds. Peter specialised in industrial accidents in the workplace for a number of years whilst working with Evill and Coleman, Seifert Sedley Williams and Lawfords, building up a reputation as someone who ensures the client always comes first. He went onto to manage his own Legal Services company whilst a Consultant with Scott-Moncrieff, Harbour and Sinclair and more recently Amwells solicitors. Peter has been successfully running his business for 15 years and joined Temple as a Senior Underwriter in December 2017. As a Senior Underwriter within the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence team Peter is responsible for assessing risks along with the day to day enquiries relating to existing policies. He is also available to help with any underwriting questions to ensure customers are getting the best out of their ATE and funding products.

Peter Morgan

Philip Pipkin

Phil has been with Temple since early 2009, and is now responsible for support of the Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Underwriting team. Phil's integral role at Temple is to ensure that Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence Underwriting tasks are dealt with quickly and professionally. He mainly deals with initial ATE enquiries and general Underwriting issues. He also assists in the maintenance and introduction of delegated schemes to Temple's customers.

Sean Fayle

Sean started his insurance career in 1994 and has been specifically involved in Legal Expenses since 1997. Over a long career specialising in legal expenses, he has worked as an underwriter, sales executive and relationship manager. His experience of underwriting a variety of commercial and personal, stand alone and schemes accounts means that our customers have the benefit of his broad knowledge. As a relationship manager, Sean has a strong focus on customer service and a desire to get the best outcomes for our clients and works closely with our business partners to achieve this. Sean's extensive knowledge of the legal expenses market helps to support Temple Legal Protection as a market leader for BTE & ATE insurance.

Sona Whyte - CFO

Sona, who is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, joined Temple in 2008 after 21 years of carrying client responsibility in practice. She worked with commercial businesses, City of London livery companies, charities and pension funds. As well as these organisations, she provided Temple with audit, budgeting, cash flow, management information and accountancy services. She, therefore, has a sound knowledge of the business environment in which Temple operates. Her wide knowledge and experience means that she is a key contributor to Temple's commitment to ensure that our customers receive timely and meaningful data to assist them with their own internal financial procedures.

Stephen Ryan

Steve has a bachelor's degree in Business Information Technology from the University of Portsmouth and joined Temple in July 2016. He has a wealth of experience in marketing project management, website development and knowledge of the insurance industry.

Tracey Benn

Tracey joined Temple in May 2014, with experience of the claims industry within a credit hire company. She has many years of customer service within the motor and credit hire industry, in which she has dealt with contracts, new business and motor claims. Tracey understands the importance of providing excellent customer service and supports the claims department in providing a swift and efficient service for our coverholders. She is aiming to study for a CILEx qualification in the near future which will further enhance Tracey's ability to support our customer's requirements.
