Joe Krim

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Ocala Leadership Team
  • Broker, Boyd Real Estate
Joe Krim is that rare person whose abilities span the typical gap between right and left brain Joe Krim has been married to his wife Holly, now a retired computer teacher, since 1980. They met in high school and began dating shortly after Joe graduated. The couple has two adult children, Jake and Kaley, and four grandchildren. All the Krim's are huge Gator fans. Joe said, "Until recently, my family had the same six stadium seats for over 50 years. Now we're a little more comfortable watching the games from our air conditioned home." Although he has no plans to slow down or retire from the real estate business, Joe and Holly have taken trips and cruises to the eastern, southern, and western Caribbean and enjoyed spending time in destinations like Curacao, The Bahamas, and Jamaica. "Anywhere there's water or water sports, that's where I want to be in my leisure hours." Taking a moment to examine Joe's passions on the whole, they seem to encompass all four elements: earth, fire, water and air. Commercial real estate development definitely involves moving earth around. A self-professed fire-lover, Joe has well-stocked fire pits at his river house and at the extended family lake house which are in use all four seasons of the year. And he never needs an excuse to be on, in, or around water, either on a boat or paddle boarding. In terms of air, Joe has a passion for drones and drone photography that he likes to share with others. His phone is packed with photos of beautiful beaches, sunsets, and remarkable river shots taken all over central Florida and various vacation sites. He added, "In the future, I'm also planning to get my drone commercial license that requires a several-week course and an FAA exam." The overarching theme of Joe's personal and professional life has been his commitment to his Christian faith and his life-long affiliation at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Ocala. He said, "For the past 27 years, I've been reading from the Bible, start to finish, and have made it through twelve times so far. My day begins before sunrise with a trip to the gym, a shower at home, a light breakfast, and then a period of time in my quiet room with the Bible. Without this foundation, I wouldn't be able to do what I do or appreciate what I've been able to accomplish. It's all been a gift from God."

Joseph Vorwerk

  • Broker, Sellstate NGR
Joe has been a career banker for over 35 years, gaining valuable expertise and in-depth knowledge of mortgage lending, investments, and real estate development. Alongside that work in 1996, Joe became partners with Thad Boyd and started as a commercial real estate broker in 2011. My banking background proved to be a helpful asset to all phases of our business." Where Joe feels most comfortable in his multi-layered profession is in financing loans and raising equity. A strong camaraderie has been formed with the other two senior partners, Thad Boyd and Joe Krim. They bring out each other's particular talents and skills to produce a synergy effect. Joe said, "It's like putting together puzzle pieces and figuring out how to manage risk. Thad and Joe are incredible at bringing people together to get important projects developed and brought to fruition. I've learned so much from them over the years." Joe Vorwerk's parents were originally from Yugoslavia (modern-day Bosnia). During World War II, when Russia invaded the country from the south and Germany invaded from the north, many families fled to what they hoped would be places of refuge. Joe's father, August, made it to Linz, Austria, and worked as a fireman in a chemical plant-an occupation that saved him from being drafted into the German army. After the war, his father left to find the rest of his family, dispersed throughout various displaced persons' camps. It was in one of those camps that he met and married Joe's mother. In 1952, they were able to immigrate to America with two children and one on the way. They settled outside of Chicago and later moved to Wisconsin, where they had a small farm, and Joe's dad also did factory work to support the family. In 1973 the Vorwerk's moved to Florida and settled in Crystal River where Joe graduated from high school and became an Eagle Scout just before his eighteenth birthday. Postponing his entry into the University of Florida until the winter semester, he traveled around Europe for two months and recalled, "I was fortunate to discover relatives, aunts and uncles, in various countries and particularly enjoyed widening my personal perspective on life." Returning to Crystal River, Joe enrolled at the University of Florida. Playing football and pursuing studies in three different fields of engineering for the first couple of years, he incidentally took an accounting class and decided to switch his major to business, concentrating on finance. At a UF fraternity party he also met his future wife, Bonnie, who was an education major and Homecoming Queen. They were married in 1990. Bonnie was Dean of Students at CFCC and is currently a guidance counselor at Blessed Trinity School. They have three adult daughters, Ali, Andie, and Lanie.

R. Thad Boyd Jr. - CEO

Job Titles:
  • Associate
  • CEO
  • Member of the Ocala Leadership Team
Thad Boyd has led the Boyd Real Estate Group since 1996. Roy Thad Boyd, III ("Thad") is an Ocala, Florida native who attended St. John Lutheran High School and Central Florida Community College. His father, Roy Thad Boyd Jr, founded a local company in the late 1970s called Mark III-a van and truck conversion manufacturing operation-that was, at one point, Marion County's largest employer. Thad Boyd is endowed with a passion for work, for problem solving, and for undertaking and accomplishing tangible goals that have a beneficial impact on his growth-oriented community. Real estate development has been his "calling," one that fully utilizes his ability to envision projects and bring together talented individuals to bring them to fruition. It also helps that he genuinely likes people and has a talent for opening up career paths for others. He reflected, "At this stage of life, I don't even think about retiring because I'm so energized by collaborating with my business partners, associates, and employees. Without their tremendous efforts, none of these things would've been possible." -between practical, physical skills and well-honed verbal communication. His boundless energy, drive, and diverse interests are traceable to an old-fashioned upbringing rooted in hard work, diligence, faith, and integrity. He excels at fixing broken things and thrives on developing and implementing creative ideas into profitable, concrete reality. A North Central Florida native, Joe graduated high school from Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, and went on to obtain an AA degree from Central Florida Community College. After studying pre-law at the University of Florida for a few semesters, he decided to switch gears and find a way to put his practical, innate talents to work. At Nobility Mobile Homes in the 1970s Joe worked his way up in short order from an hourly employee into upper management. R. Thad Boyd Jr. (father of Joe's current business associate, R. Thad Boyd, III) hired Joe at Mark III where he followed the same upward trajectory until the company was sold in 1996. Obtaining a real estate license and some real-world sales experience at then Ocala Properties, he later joined Thad Boyd III at Boyd Development Corporation. Joe has now served the real estate development firm for over two decades in project management, development, leasing, and sales of commercial properties. Over the years, he has eagerly embraced new technologies (like drones) and brought his incredibly sharp problem-solving skills to bear on every project with which he's been involved-both short and long term-in conjunction with an ever-evolving team of professionals. It takes years to hone the skills necessary for navigating the entitlement process and toestablish relationships with architects, engineers, attorneys, and county planners and officials to help property owners bring their projects through the development process. This is a business built on trustworthy connections. Joe has carefully developedsolid, workable, and lasting ones that benefit his profession, the local economy, and the entire community. He's also been a board member and chairman of the Marion County Code Enforcement Board since the late 1990s, a quasi-judicial body that is the monitoring arm of the county's building codes and ordinances. Joe and his wife Holly have two adult children, Jake and Kayley, and four grandchildren. The couple enjoys the beach, fire pits, and occasional getaways to various Caribbean destinations. Their loving bond has been strengthened by mutual Christian faith and long-term affiliation at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
