FAMOUS FOUNDATIONS
Updated 25 days ago
The success of structures-be they buildings, bridges, or any other structure-rests on their foundations. Famous Foundations documents eighteen unique foundations that were either the pride or the embarrassment of design engineers or builders. Thirteen of the foundations discussed were immediate and enduring successes. Five were either early failures or continuing repair challenges. The book contains over a hundred photographs and drawings illustrating the planning phase, construction, and operation of the structures. The long-lasting foundations of the early Roman roads and bridges are explored as well as the new Tappan Zee Bridge. A primer on foundation is included for those unfamiliar with foundation design and construction.
