The Child Protection Course is designed for pre-deployment training for Peace Support Operations conducted by the African Union (AU) through the African Standby Force (ASF). It should aid the establishment and overall capacity development of the force, including Military, Police and Civilian personnel. One of the means for creating readiness is systematic, comprehensive and coherent training, carried out by competent facilitators identified by the African Peace Support Trainers' Association (APSTA), the ASF and individual Standby Forces such as the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) or the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as well as the partnering Centres of Excellence and other training institutions... The objective of this training is to promote child-friendly practices of Peace Support Operation (PSO) personnel and to enhance the protective role of PSO personnel during their deployment on a mission.
