Shannon Dodd-Smith

Shannon has been practicing land use and social planning since 1997 with progressive experience in policy and land use planning in the private/corporate, academic, non-government, provincial and municipal context, along with some Indigenous community work. During her career, Shannon has implemented the Ontario One Window Policy-led planning system, represented northern interests in input to Provincial Policy Statement (PPS); advised private clients and municipal councils across the NW on planning impacts of provincial legislation such as Planning Act, Aggregate Resources Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Clean Water Act, etc.; facilitated meaningful Indigenous and community engagement; prepared and reviewed official plans, plans of subdivision and condominium, consent and minor variance applications; prepared timely and high-quality planning justification reports and recommendations; prepared Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) / Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) witness statements and appeal packages, as well as participated in pre-hearing conferences, settlement discussions, and OMB/LPAT appearances. Shannon has also provided professional support in numerous real estate transactions; facilitated and prepared various Strategic Action Plans; and conducted research to support Affordable Housing initiatives; Environmental Impact Studies, Environmental Site Assessments, Environmental Audits along with report preparation. Shannon has been the Principal/Owner of SDS Freelance Planning since 2017, working exclusively (and steadily) by positive referrals.
