The institute has been successful in securing sponsored research projects and grants since its inception, and in recent years, it has played a central role in the coordination of various manufacturing-focused initiatives for Texas A&M Engineering. These include establishment of a common facility for advanced manufacturing in the emerging technologies building leveraging Texas A&M University's research development fund in 2016, organization of the joint Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC) and North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) (American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, MSEC-NAMRC) with over 800 delegates, and initiation of USA-France AM2 partnership with Arts et Métiers.
