John Steiner - Managing Director

John Steiner is a Founding Member and Managing Director of Welon Partners. He brings more than 35 years of investment management expertise to the firm working with both individuals and institutions. In 1983, John started with First Alabama Bank, which subsequently became Regions Financial Corp. From 1985 until 2000 John served in various positions within the Trust Department beginning as an Equity Analyst and eventually being promoted to Portfolio Manager and Chief Equity Strategist. John left Regions to pursue other opportunities, and eventually founded Alabama's first independent trust company, Alatrust, in 2007. In 2015 it was bought by a community bank, where John remained as a Managing Director until his first retirement in 2018. John honed his investment style during his tenure at Regions. From 1993 through 1994 he managed the Treasury Money Market Fund and was responsible for selecting and trading all securities in the portfolio. From 1994 through 2000, he was the Co-Manager of the Balanced fund and where he decided the asset allocation and managed the equity component. In 1997 he was asked to also manage the Regions Growth Fund which he grew from $250M to $950M in assets and acquired a five-star MorningStar rating in just three years. A native of Montgomery, John continues to live in town with wife, Laura. Much of his time outside of office hours is dedicated to non-profits that serve his local community. He is currently an Elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church (PCA), Vice President of the River Region Trails Board, past Board President of The Nature Conservancy of Alabama, a Board member of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce, a Board Member of Landmarks Foundation, and Board Chair of Common Ground Ministries. Previously he has served as Treasurer of House2House Ministries and a Board member of Retirement Benefits, Inc. (PCA). John graduated from Auburn University in 1983 with a BS/BA in Industrial Management. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) designation in 1996.

Maggie Edwards

Maggie Edwards joined Welon Partners as the Operations Manager in 2023. With a dynamic background in accounting, Maggie brings a rich blend of financial acumen and operational insight to the team. A Montgomery native, Maggie received her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Huntingdon College and Master of Accountancy from the University of North Alabama. With more than six years of experience in healthcare and public accounting, Maggie has worked to support the financial goals of both large corporations and local River Region business owners. With specialized skills in financial analysis and project management, Maggie works daily to ensure structured operations of Welon Partners to serve its clients and community most effectively. In her free time, Maggie serves her alma mater as the Recruitment and Finance Advisor for the Lambda Kappa chapter of Chi Omega, reading, and spending time with her husband, Colton, and their pets.

Robert Allan - Managing Director

Robert Allan is Founding Member and Managing Director of Welon Partners. With over a decade of financial, operational, and accounting experience, he brings a unique perspective that allows him to provide value to his client's beyond managing their portfolio. Robert began his career in Public Accounting first with PwC in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, and two years later with KPMG in Roanoke, Virginia. He worked in the assurance practice at both firms learning the intricacies of business operations and gaining exposure to various industry verticals including financial services, healthcare, higher education, and energy. In 2016 Robert joined Hayek Kallen Investment Management, an independent financial advisor. While there he split his time between servicing clients, trading accounts, and performing fundamental equity research. Following a career opportunity for his wife, he moved to Montgomery, Alabama in 2017. He worked as the Controller of a private-equity backed healthcare company which nearly tripled revenues during his two-year tenure. Wanting to get back to financial management, Robert co-founded Welon Partners and has been helping his clients build wealth ever since. He focuses on tax-conscious planning and investing strategies for entrepreneurs, professionals, and other clients with complex financial situations. Robert and his wife, Aria, reside in Montgomery with their two children. Outside of work, Robert serves as a Deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church, is on the House Corporation for his fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi, and is an active member of the Montgomery Rotary Club. Robert graduated from Washington and Lee University with a BS in Business Administration and Accounting, and a minor in Philosophy. He has held an active CPA license since 2013, and earned both his CFA® and CFP® designations in 2022.
