While ancient Egypt is arguably the most famous culture associated with the veneration of cats, this exhibition seeks to broaden the narrative by incorporating select examples from other ancient civilizations. By showcasing feline deities and divine cats from Indian, Japanese, and Mesopotamian cultures, we aim to provide a comparative perspective on the importance of cats across various pantheons. This cross-cultural approach highlights the universal reverence for domestic and exotic felines, illustrating their sacred roles and the shared human fascination with these enigmatic creatures.
