Andrew B. Wolff

Dr. Wolff is a board-certified fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hip arthroscopy, hip preservation and sports medicine. He has been in practice in the Washington, DC area since 2008. He is widely recognized as an expert in the field of hip arthroscopy and preservation. Dr. Wolff is an internationally recognized leader in the field of hip arthroscopy and preservation. He regularly lectures at national and international hip meetings and publishes research peer-reviewed orthopaedic surgery literature about hip preservation procedures, best practices as to how to performs them and how to achieve the best results for these patients. He is the vice-president of Multi-Center Arthroscopic Surgery of the Hip (MASH) Study Group that aggregates data from leading hip surgeons around the country to allow careful research to improve the outcomes for our patients. He has helped develop and design techniques and instrumentation that have made the arthroscopic treatment of hip problems easier, safer, and more reliable. Additionally he is a Consultant Reviewer of current research for the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. As a leader in the field of Hip Preservation and Hip Arthroscopy, Dr. Wolff was recently named as Chairman of the Annual Scientific Meeting for ISHA-The International Hip Preservation Society to be held in Washington DC in 2024. Dr. Wolff has also served as the president of the Washington Orthopaedic Society in 2012-2013 and co-chaired the 2012 Virginia Orthopaedic Society meeting. He currently serves on the Membership Committee for ISHA-The International Hip Preservation Society and is an active member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and a fellow of American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Wolff is a graduate of Amherst College and Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis where he received multiple awards-including selection for membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He went on to complete his Orthopaedic Surgery residency training at Yale and a Sports Medicine and Hip, Knee and Shoulder fellowship at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

Charles M. Ruland

Charles M. Ruland, M.D. is a board certified physician at the Anne Arundel Orthopaedic Surgeons Division in Annapolis, Bowie and Glen Burnie, Maryland. Dr. Ruland is fellowship trained in sports medicine, arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery and completed his training at the Southern California Orthopaedic Institute after earning his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In addition to his active involvement in several orthopaedic associations and societies, Dr. Ruland provides team coverage for the Bowie Baysox and local high school sports teams.

Dr. Michael Anvari

Dr. Michael Anvari is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in the subspecialty of joint replacement. He joins The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics Anne Arundel Orthopaedic Surgeons with over 13 years of clinical experience. He has a special interest in hip and knee joint reconstruction, including direct anterior total hip replacement, partial knee replacement, and revision procedures, with computer navigation and robotics expertise, and rapid rehabilitation protocols. Dr. Anvari became interested in orthopaedics and joint replacement because of the immense satisfaction of alleviating pain and restoring quality of life to his patients. Dr. Anvari wants his patients to return to the activities that keep patients active. A native of Towson, Maryland, Dr. Anvari resides in Annapolis, MD with his wife, son and daughter. Dr. Anvari joins Anne Arundel Orthopaedic Surgeons to become a part of a close community in which he can take a personal approach to caring for his patients orthopaedic concerns. Mark R. Linzer

Nicholas Mata

An Ohio native, he completed a Bachelor of Science with honors at The Ohio State University and then earned his M.D. from Wright State University. Having previously undergone multiple shoulder surgeries himself, in medical school, Dr. Mata took a particular interest in the treatment of disorders of the spine, nervous system, and musculoskeletal system. These experiences led him to pursue a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Case Western Reserve University's Metrohealth Medical Center. During his residency in PM&R, Dr. Mata learned about complex, multidisciplinary treatment and functional restoration for a wide variety of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions. His leadership, academic work, and excellence in care led to his selection as Chief Resident. Throughout his training, Dr. Mata noticed that pain was consistently a barrier to patient success. To better provide his patients with expertise and more options to improve pain, he elected to undergo additional training by subspecializing in a Pain Medicine fellowship at Case Western Reserve. Dr. Mata provides specialized, holistic, multidisciplinary medical care for a wide variety of musculoskeletal and painful conditions. He is skilled in a variety of nonsurgical-interventional treatments for the spine, nerves, and joints and can provide options for neuromodulation technologies for pain. He is a strong believer in safely restoring and preventing loss-of-function so that his patients can have more independence in their lives. Outside the office, Dr. Mata enjoys being active, exercising, hiking, playing basketball, and staying involved in the community.

Stephen Brown

Steven Brown, M.D. is a board certified orthopaedic physician specializing in arthroscopic shoulder, knee reconstruction and sports medicine at the Glen Burnie, Kent Island and Arnold/ Annapolis, Maryland offices of the Bay Area Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Division. Dr. Brown received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Virginia and has gained an extensive amount of experience during his career. He believes in exhausting all non-operative options and modalities before exercising surgical options. However, when necessary, Dr. Brown and his surgical team use state of the art surgical techniques in hopes of making each patient well. Dr. Brown received post-graduate training at George Washington University and founded The Greater Anne Arundel Orthopaedic Society which provides a lecture and educational series for Orthopaedic Surgeons across Maryland. Thomas Phan

Thomas Phan, M.D. is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician with subspecialty fellowship training in Pain Management. He specializes in chronic pain management and minimally invasive procedures to treat painful disorders of the spine, muscles, and peripheral joints. Dr. Phan promotes a conservative, multidisciplinary approach to pain management. He has conducted research on the use of peripheral nerve stimulation to control postamputation pain. He has published and presented his findings at several national conferences including American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Association of Academic Physiatrists, and American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.
