Aaron J. G. King

Aaron J. G. King was educated at the High School of Dundee, Scotland, and studied at Mansfield College, Oxford, before completing his Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Mr. King originally taught Philosophy, Theology and History, but also has much experience of delivering Critical Thinking and Theory of Knowledge, and holds an extensive knowledge of IGCSE and A level. He has worked in some of the largest and most successful schools in England, having been a Housemaster and Head of Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education at Dulwich College, London, before becoming Head of Upper School there, and he has wide expertise in improving learning and attainment. At the Grammar School at Leeds, the largest independent co-educational school in England, Mr. King took on the newly created position of Director of Sixth Form, and was instrumental in building a positive culture, as well as introducing new academic and university guidance programmes and driving forward the ambition and effectiveness of the faculty.

Aisling Purcell

Aisling studied for an Arts Degree at NUI Maynooth and after that completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Education. She taught as a Primary teacher in Ireland for 6 years before beginning her international teaching career. In Ireland, she taught as part of the SEN and EAL teams, as well as being an Upper Primary Class Teacher. Her first international teaching job was as a Primary teacher delivering the Cambridge Curriculum in Moscow, Russia. She has also taught in Seoul, South Korea and Abu Dhabi, UAE. Most recently, Aisling has taught the Cambridge Curriculum in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Aisling enjoys travelling, cycling and reading. Aisling has been collecting LEGO for over 30 years. Her collection includes City, Harry Potter and Disney pieces, a passion which she is keen to share with children young and older!

Alexandra Lukačinová

Alexandra graduated from Comenius University in Bratislava. During her studies, she spent summer holidays in Italy as an au pair and also spent one semester at Charles University in Prague through the Erasmus+ scheme. After graduation, she spent the summer in USA on the student programme Work and Travel. After she got to know the USA a little more, she spent an exciting three-month internship in Portugal where she worked for the largest student organisation in Lisbon. Following this, she worked for an event company and at the British Embassy as an Events Manager. Most recently, she has been working at Comenius University in the Public Relations Office. She brings her wide PR and Marketing skills to CIS and loves travel, food and has recently begun to learn Spanish and to horseride.

Andrea Siváková

Andrea obtained her Master's degree in Business Management from the Economic University in Bratislava, Slovakia. She started her professional career as a consultant and data analyst in the Learning and Development Sector. Then, she moved to Bilbao, Spain in order to pursue a new career challenge as a research and development consultant. However, shortly, another exciting opportunity prompted her to join the European Commission, in Brussels, Belgium. Her assignment at the Directorate-General for Climate Change gave her the opportunity to work in a pulsing, multicultural environment and to take part in high level meetings and events such as the Conference of the parties to the United Nation Framework Conventions. For the last several years Andrea has been working for outstanding secondary schools in the United Kingdom. She has found true passion working with students, helping them grow and achieve their goals. Her last position was Sixth Form data analyst administrator. Recently she returned back to Slovakia and joined CIS as Exams and Data Manager. In her free time, she spends a lot of time with her children. They enjoy nature, taking long walks or creating different arts and craft projects.

Andrea Zákopčanová

Andrea has a Master's degree in Marketing communication and Cultural studies from the Philosophical Faculty of Comenius University. After her graduation, she moved to Australia where she gained 15+ years of experience in customer service, sales and administration. Over the last four years she worked at a prestigious independent school in Sydney, where she was managing administrative and organisational side of the sports department. Recently she relocated back to Slovakia and joined CIS as Admissions Manager. She is responsible for the smooth running of the entire admissions process, from initial enquiries about the school, through to registration and enrolment. In her spare time, Andrea loves traveling and enjoys outdoor activities.

Anthony completed his Post Graduate Certificate of Education at Coleg y Drindod, Carmarthen, Wales, following a Music degree gained at Middlesex Polytechnic, London. More recently, he returned to university some twenty-five years after his initial studies and completed an MA focusing on education in society, which proved to be both a challenging and rewarding educational experience. Anthony's professional background as a teacher includes working across all age ranges in both mainstream and specialist educational placements supporting both pupils and professionals; he also spent seven years working at an international school in the Czech Republic. More recently, his roles have included whole school Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Safeguarding lead and whole school mental health lead. Outside the school environment, Anthony's overriding passion is his life alongside his wife and children; the remainder of his time is spent music making, travelling, reading and socialising.

In more recent years he has worked also as a teacher at an English language school in Bratislava, teaching both general and Business English for groups and individuals from different state institutions and private companies. Balázs has helped a great number of language learners in achieving their goals - become fluent speakers. Cathair Hogan

Cathair went to primary school in a small local school in Ireland before completing secondary school in the largest school in the country, Gorey Community School. Cathair then travelled to England to study a joint honours B.Sc.in Geography and Physical Education before completing his PGCE in Primary education at the University of Worcester. Clara Sastre was born in Valladolid, Spain, where she completed her Bachelor's degrees in Pre-school Education and Primary Teaching, specialising in English Education. During her university studies, Clara spent time completing her education in different parts of Europe, where she fell in love with international education and living abroad. She started her international teaching experience in Bratislava in 2018, first working as a Spanish teacher for over a year, and then in an international school as a Year 5 and 6 Art, Science, and Spanish Teacher. Darina Müllender-Taeter

Darina studied Pedagogy and Nursing Care at the Comenius University in Bratislava and Journalism at the Robert Schumann Institute in Brussels. She has also studied several languages at various language schools around the world and holds a variety of diplomas in interpreting and translation for English, French, and German. She has worked for the BBC World Service as a radio producer for the Slovak Section in Bush House in London and later as a correspondent in Brussels. She has also worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a desk officer for the UK. Darina has also worked for two international schools in Bratislava and Leaf Academy where she taught German, French, English, and Slovak to foreign students. She has lived in several countries, notably in the UK, Belgium, North Macedonia, and Georgia. She is still a passionate traveller and an avid book reader, being a member of the French Book Club in Bratislava. Darina likes hiking, swimming, cycling, and canoeing as leisure activities. Eva received her master's degree from the Faculty of Economics and Management at SPU Nitra. With a desire to seek new opportunities and experience more of the world, she landed in the United Kingdom, which became her home for the next twenty years. During this period, she devoted herself to her family, becoming actively involved in volunteer work. This commitment developed into a passion for working with children and led her into education. After working in various elementary schools across the UK, Eva settled into a more challenging role as an HLTA within one of Wiltshire County Council's Special Educational Needs Resource Bases. Her role was primarily to work with small groups of children supporting and enhancing their learning experiences. This focused on collaborating with a speech therapist to develop individual goals for children. Eva undertook further studies at Milton Keynes College, focused on developing children with complex educational needs. After returning to Slovakia, she worked as an English teacher for children of preschool age. In her free time, she enjoys any opportunity to travel and visit historical monuments, and if the opportunity arises, enjoy food from different cultures.

Firouzeh Adl

Firouzeh gained a degree in teaching English as a Second Language and taught for 12 years. Besides her experience as a teacher, she worked as an Administrative Assistant in international organisations for 10 years, and as a librarian for over 10 years as well. She enjoys naturally, researching and reading books. She believes that there are many little ways to enlarge your child's world and your own worldview, and that the love of books is the best of all. In the words of Roald Dahl's iconic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Firouzeh implores us all, "So please, oh please, we beg, we pray, go throw your TV set away, and in its place you can install a lovely bookshelf on the wall." Firouzeh is very much a key part of bringing books, research and lifelong curiosity to the whole community at CIS.

Gabriela Iulia Iordachescu

Gabriela has lived 3 years in Germany, completed a Master's degree in Organisational Communication and Human Resource Management before studying for her Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Romania. She has 4 years of experience as a youth worker and delegate in over 10 international events, mostly financed by the Erasmus+ Programme on non-formal education, democratic processes, youth empowerment, and sustainable development. As a German teacher, she believes that you always need to improve yourself by learning from different people with international background with grace, passion and determination. Hana Haláková

Jana Burcinová

From there, she went on to study teaching for special education schools at the University of Prešov. She has gained eleven years of experience in the education system. Due to her creative skills, she actively participates in folk groups, has managed school folk clubs, organised folk dance and folk singing competitions and enjoys bringing music into the classroom. Karol Wicklein - CHRO

Shortly after finishing his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, an interplay of circumstances led Karol to human resources management, where he started as a consultant in a personnel agency. Later, he worked as a HR specialist for a mobile operator and subsequently worked significant part of his career as a HR manager for international companies, mainly in the field of technology and consulting. During his time at Hewlett Packard, he was also responsible for the coordination of human resources for the countries of the former Yugoslavia and Balkans. He has deepened his expertise through various courses and trainings and holds the "HR Management Professional" certificate. He has shared his experience with the students at the University of Economics in Bratislava and served as a member of the Board of Directors in 2 professional associations focused on human resources and internal communication. Prior joining CIS, for the last 5 years he worked as a consultant and interim HR manager, focusing mainly on transformation projects with an emphasis on setting personnel strategy and HR priorities, including the implementation of key business initiatives. Kristína had decided for philology and thus she studied translation and interpretation in combination with the Slovak language and literature at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. She discovered her passion for the English language while studying at a grammar school. Therefore, after completing it, she temporarily moved to England, where she worked as an au pair. She returned to England during the summer months while studying at the university. Her professional career has always been connected to the world of education. She first worked as a consultant for university studies abroad. Later, she helped people start their career in IT in an international company, where she worked as a customer service/student service specialist as well as in the field of HR administration and back office, where, among other things, she took on the role of contracts administrator across locations and also covered the agenda related to the use of funds from national projects under the auspices of ÚPSVR. Thanks to her previous work experience, she has been able to thrive in the field of communication and working with people and at the same time to acquire new knowledge and overcome various administrative challenges. Leanne has been involved in a variety of co-curricular activities, such as educational trips to Rome and Berlin and relishes these opportunities. Lenka Urblíková

After finishing her studies at the Pedagogical Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava, Lenka spent some time in England. After coming back to Slovakia, she decided to continue in her studies and received a PhD. certificate in pedagogy at the same faculty. She worked for more than five years for an international company in Switzerland and her experience has helped her after return in leading several departments within the international food chain sector in Slovakia. Her responsibility in CIS as a Head of Outreach is to run the school events, trips, afterschool and outreach activities and programmes of the School and to oversee a wide range of duties in daily and annual administration in order for the School to run smoothly and to best serve the needs of students. Lucia is a graduate of Comenius University in Bratislava, where she studied English language and literature. She started her career in HR and management consulting. She was responsible for execution of Executive Search and HR Consulting projects for various industries. Later she became a leader of national HR association in Slovakia - HRcomm. She was responsible for preparation of activities for HR professionals that created an opportunity to share their best practice. The activities included conferences, workshops, and various events. Her next career led to non-profit organization LEAF. She was a part of the Slovak professional abroad program (SPAP) that prepared activities for Slovaks living and studying abroad. Lucia was also a point of contact for Slovaks that planned to return to Slovakia - Lucia provided them career consulting related to their career opportunities in Slovakia. He started his career as IT administrator during studies and was responsible for many different types of IT infrastructures. He worked for example for ESET, well known cybersecurity company. Later she switched to a career as a waitress for a year. She worked in an Italian restaurant in Czech Republic for several months and then in a coffee shop as a barista in Slovakia. Natalia has a passion for art, she likes to draw and paint. In her free time she likes to travel with her family and play video games with her friends.

Peter studied Molecular Biology in Bratislava. The idea of being a researcher who spends all day working in a laboratory was not his ideal. Instead, he studied pedagogy and taught Biology at Grösslingová Secondary School, where he spent 5 years. After that, he spent 7 years at LEAF Academy, where he was teaching AP Biology and Science. He was also in charge of co-curriculars, sports, DofE, and off-sites programs. He also led the STEM team. When he's not teaching, you can often find him in the Slovak mountains throughout the year - with boots on in the summer and skis on in winter. He loves traveling and exploring different countries through their traditions and food. When it comes to food, he is most passionate about local and seasonal food, and he tries to spread awareness of this throughout his blog. She studied marketing at Santa Monica College and obtained her bachelor's degree in business administration from Azusa Pacific University. Her career started almost 25 years ago in advertising in Slovakia and continued in the USA in marketing across different types of businesses and various industries. Upon returning home, she continued working in marketing for companies such as Universal Music, and ZOOT, as well as working on her own sustainable project and providing marketing consulting. Zora is a former track and field athlete that represented Slovakia for more than a decade in the long jump and heptathlon, held multiple youth records, won several Slovak national and American collegiate (NCIA) titles. She enjoys spending time with her husband and theirs's two young sons, studying interior design, traveling, and staying active. She also volunteers at NAŠA sport academy as a coach of multi-events.
