Ahmad El-Sayed

Ahmad El-Sayed, P.Tech. is a Senior Project Manager at Carbon Alpha. He has a diploma in Chemical Engineering from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He has worked in the energy sector for over 20years in many different roles and capacities across Western Canada, most recently as a project manager at EPCs. In his role, Ahmad works with the Carbon Alpha team to help plan and organize projects in very early development stages and deliver on active projects.

Anne Halladay

  • Is Director, Risk & MMV
Anne Halladay is Director, Risk & MMV at Carbon Alpha. She has a Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering from Queen's University and a Master of Science from the University of Calgary. She has decades of experience, and 8 years of direct experience with the Quest CCS project, specifically in MMV. At Carbon Alpha, Anne ensures projects are developed with a risk-based approach, which defines how each unique project unfolds. She is also in charge of developing site-specific MMV programs to demonstrate containment and conformance of permanently stored CO2.

Bob Bryden

Bob Bryden, P.Eng. is Director, Development & Operations at Carbon Alpha. He has a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Victoria and is a Professional Engineer (PEng). He has a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Victoria. The majority of his experience is in the energy industry as a completions engineer, though he has experience in hydrogen fuel cells and storage tanks. He has deep experience with wells and well operations. Bob acts as a project and program manager and ensures all the components of a project come together effectively. He also manages well designs, safety programs, and procurement, and helps deploy systems and processes to make everything happen effectively.

Chris Kedzior

Chris Kedzior is a Subsurface Advisor at Carbon Alpha. He earned his Master of Science in Geology from the University of Warsaw. He has a strong background in probabilistic methods, risk assessment, and data modelling. He has experience in energy, as well as modelling data for CCUS projects, programming, and data analysis.

Crystal Hustak

Job Titles:

Crystal Hustak, P.Eng. is a Reservoir Engineer at Carbon Alpha. She has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary. She started her career working on CO2 enhanced oil recovery projects and has worked on North American energy development projects in both technical and development roles. Crystal supports all things subsurface and integrates reservoir workflows into the development plans for evaluation, appraisal, and development of CCS projects.

Eric Condon

Eric Condon is Principal, Digital & Information Technology at Carbon Alpha. He has a diploma in Information Technology from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and worked in the energy sector for over a decade in Calgary, followed by experience in New Zealand. In his role, Eric works with the IT team to design, build and execute technology and information management systems. He works to ensure that Carbon Alpha team members have secure access to whatever data they need anytime they need it.

Eric Hanson

Eric Hanson, P.Geol. is a Senior Geoscientist with Carbon Alpha. He has a Master of Science in Geology from the University of Alberta. He has over 20 years of experience working in the energy industry, with most of that time being in the exploration arena exploring for both conventional and unconventional resources. In his role, Eric works within a multidisciplinary team to help identify possible subsurface horizons for carbon storage.

Felix Doku

Job Titles:
  • Junior Reservoir Engineer
Felix Doku is a Junior Reservoir Engineer at Carbon Alpha. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Petroleum Engineering from China University of Petroleum and a Master of Engineering in Petroleum and Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary. He has early-career exposure and training in the energy industry working with reservoir engineers on subsurface projects and assisting with reservoir data analysis. In his role, Felix provides assistance for screening and scoping exercises, reservoir engineering support and plays a key role in the project development of carbon storage projects.

Gord Plouffe

Gord Plouffe, P.Eng. is Principal Advisor, Construction & Drilling Operations at Carbon Alpha. He has a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary and over 25 years of industry experience. He started his career in field completion operations then transitioned into subsurface reservoir engineering. Over the last 18 years, he has been operationally focused on construction & drilling engineering. His career has allowed him to work across North American and internationally. In his role, Gord works to safely acquire subsurface appraisal data and deliver integral CCUS wells for long-life service.

Graham Hack

His industry background includes over a decade in North American upstream energy development, including facilities, production, reservoir, business development, and analytics for various sized operating companies. In his role, Graham fosters technical excellence and demonstrates the value of reservoir engineering expertise as a component of the integrated development workflow. He drives insights and efficiency in data-intensive processes through the use of advanced analytics.

James Louie

He graduated from Mount Royal University in Computer Information Systems and has spent his career in the energy sector implementing a diverse set of software systems and digital data solutions. He also owns a retail business that teaches kids to code. In his role, James is accountable for all of Digital & IT, including business intelligence, systems implementation, cloud infrastructure, end user experience, and cybersecurity.

Janet Scase - CFO

Janet Scase, CPA, CA is Director, Finance at Carbon Alpha. She has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Calgary in Accounting and a CPA,CA designation. Her work experience includes various financial, accounting, and management roles at both private and public companies. At Carbon Alpha, she is responsible for accounting, finance, treasury, compliance, and various other projects and tasks.

Jenna Marttila

Jenna Marttila, P.Eng. serves as Director, Planning & Strategy at Carbon Alpha. She earned her Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from McGill University. Prior to Carbon Alpha, she has worked many roles in the energy sector in the USA and Canada, such as reservoir, production, development, and planning. She has also co-founded two landscaping companies, which are both still in operation today. Jenna loves working in a start-up atmosphere, which provides the opportunity (and necessity) of being involved across many areas of the business. She works on project budgets, marketing and advertising, business development, project management, economics, and understanding regulations and policies. She appreciates the variety in projects, the exposure to new concepts, and the opportunity to work with a fun, smart, driven team.

Joe Stuhec

Joe Stuhec, P.Geoph. is a Senior Geophysicist at Carbon Alpha. He has a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics from the University of Alberta and has over 32 years of diverse experience as a Professional Geophysicist. His experience includes seismic data processing and interpretation for exploration and development projects, domestically and internationally. In his role, Joe supports the subsurface team within formation to assist with decision making during the site screening, selection and characterization phases of carbon storage project evaluations.

Kyra McRitchie

Kyra McRitchie is a Research Analyst at Carbon Alpha. She has a Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences from the University of Calgary. She has experience working within multidisciplinary teams on a variety of research projects that mostly focused on sustainability and the impact of human activity on the environment. As a research analyst, Kyra spends time researching information to help inform current and future projects. She stays on top of pertinent subjects such as MMV, carbon markets, funding, and policy. She supports the Carbon Alpha team where needed, and helps with marketing, office administration and social events.

Lee Hunt

Lee Hunt, P.Geoph. is Principal, Geophysics at Carbon Alpha. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSc with specialization in Geophysics. He is a professional geophysicist with 3decades of experience working virtually every play in the WCSB and many other basins, for companies both large and small. He has published or participated in over 50 technical publications and has received multiple awards for his abilities. In his role, Lee helps the subsurface team in any way he can, specifically with the geophysical aspects of their work by helping to formulate and execute technical strategies, set standards, advise on scheduling and develop technologic solutions.

Mohamed Helmy

Mohamed Helmy, EIT is a Reservoir Engineer, EIT at Carbon Alpha. He has a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Suez University, and a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot Watt University. He has spent his career on the subsurface side of energy projects and in the aviation industry, using data to provide insights and recommendations to stakeholders, and driving development and operating decisions. In his role, Mohamed supports the evaluation, appraisal, development, and optimization of carbon storage projects.

Mohammad Tuhinuzzaman

Mohammad Tuhinuzzaman, P.Eng. is a Reservoir Simulation Advisor at Carbon Alpha. He has a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering from Middle East Technical University, followed by MASc in Petroleum Systems Engineering from University of Regina. He is a Professional Engineer with more than 16 years of sub-surface development/management experience in the field of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and Waterflooding in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. In his role at Carbon Alpha Mohammad provides numerical simulation support to set ranges of expectations, address uncertainties and critical issues for carbon storage projects.

Patrick Elliott - COO, Founder

Patrick Elliott, P.Geol. is the Chief Operations Officer and co-founder of Carbon Alpha. He has a Bachelor of Science of Geology (Hons) from Western University. He worked in upstream energy development for 30 years and has co-founded two energy companies previous to Carbon Alpha. He is an Associate with Creative Destruction Lab and ScaleUp, where he volunteers to help early and mid-stage entrepreneurs develop their businesses. At Carbon Alpha, Patrick works on aspects of business organization, business development, technical aspects, and operations.

Philip Hosty

He spent the second half of his career in energy, most recently as co-founder and CEO of a Canadian gas producer, Jupiter Resources. His role focuses on the strategic, commercial, financial, and organizational aspects of Carbon Alpha.

Slade Thornhill

Slade Thornhill, P.Eng. is a Senior Development Engineer at Carbon Alpha. He has a Bachelor of Science In Chemical Engineering from the University of Calgary. Recently, Slade obtained his CFA Level 1 and Project Management Professional (PMP) designation. He has 25 years of energy experience including reservoir, production, operations, development, midstream, commercial negotiations, strategic planning, infrastructure planning, leadership and sustainability projects. In his role, Slade puts concepts to reality by coordinating the efforts of the team to optimize the development plan for projects and execute them in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.
