César Chávez Academy (2001) and Dolores Huerta Preparatory High (2004) were formed by a diverse group of community members committed to the preparation of Pueblo's students for success as young scholars, citizens of the world, and leaders of character regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds. Our diverse culture embraces the meritorious service of César Chávez and Dolores Huerta, dedicated leaders in the pursuit of equality and recipients of the Presidential Award of Freedom. With the ambitious mission to prepare each student for success in college, CHPA provides a rigorous college preparatory program in a supportive and challenging learning environment and is the only Pueblo school to provide a seamless K-12 education built on virtues of integrity.
Ersilia Cruz Middle School was named after community advocate, Ersilia Cruz, who was dedicated to improving the community she loved. Through hard work and dedication, her efforts resulted in many improvements in the Hyde Park community including the development of Hyde Park Gardens and the redevelopment and improvement of the neighborhood park. Mrs. Cruz's desire and determination to provide all students the opportunities to achieve success through education played a pivotal role in the opening of the César Chavez Academy. Her efforts to take care of the families living in Hyde Park will never be forgotten.
