Credit unions, like Empire ONE, are cooperative, not-for-profit financial institutions organized to promote thrift and provide credit to members. They are member-owned and controlled through boards of directors who are elected by the membership. Board members serve on a volunteer basis and may hire a management team to run the credit union. Boards also establish and revise policy, set dividend and loan rates and direct certain operations. The result is a safe, secure financial institution that puts members first.
