MIB - Key Persons
Amanda supports the Director in the day-to-day management of the Institute. Overseeing the Institute Operations team, she has managerial responsibility for general Institute operations and the provision of advice and support to the Director and Institute academics and the wider Institute research community.
Katya is responsible for the development and delivery of an integrated and effective Research Services in the MIB, maximizing our ability to attract researchers and research income in line with the Institute's strategic aims, undertake high quality research, and exploit research outcomes. Working closely with the Director and academic staff, Katya provides support on the development of consortium bids, research strategies and promotion of research activities.
Professor George Guo-Qiang Chen has more than 30 years of research and development experience in microbial physiology, metabolic engineering, and microbial PHA production and applications. He has published over 270 international peer-reviewed papers with more than 10,000 citations (H-Index 48), as reported in ‘Web of Science'.
With over 30 issued patents and 40 pending patents, George Chen's technologies have been provided to several companies that succeed in mass production of Microbial polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). He has received many awards for his contributions to the microbial PHA manufacturing fields. In addition, he serves Associate Editor and Editorial Board Member positions for several international journals.

Jean-Loup Faulon is a senior research director at the French National Institute for Agronomical Research (INRA) and also a Professor in Synthetic Biology at The University of Manchester. He is the founder and co-director of a CNRS nation-wide research network in Synthetic Biology.

Professor Lionel Clarke OBE is co-chair of the UK Engineering Biology Leadership Council.
He set up a bio-environmental consultancy ‘BionerG' in 2016, following a career in Shell, spanning research-to-deployment programmes ranging from the global phase-out of leaded gasoline through to the development of advanced biofuels.
He currently sits as an industrial board member on the UK Bioeconomy Strategy Governance Group and is actively engaged with numerous advisory panels.
