No doubt like many others in the creative industry, I had put off updating/maintaining an online portfiolio of commisioned work for an embarassingly long time. Reflecting on this, I realised that my biggest stumbling block had been that commisioned work essentially doesn't belong to me... To be clear, I love what I do and am lucky to have worked on some really cool projects and with many awesome people over the years. Once each job is complete though, I'm always reminded that the final imagery isn't truly mine to share. Ultimately, the ownership lies with the client/brand/studio/photographer and often how, or if, the images can be shown, along with the various stages of progress/behind the scenes, is restricted (which, I should add, is absolutely fair enough)... Moreover, it's always a team effort - the concept, the mood, the set, the models… oftentimes all of these things and more have been decided long before I jump aboard to do my bit.
