Jonathan Aikman

Jonathan Aikman is a Portfolio Manager at ReSolve. He is also the founder of an artificial intelligence consulting firm, NordAi Analytics started in 2019. Previously, Jon was Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at Pinnacle Wealth Brokers, an exempt market dealer and alternative investment firm based in Calgary, where he was directly responsible for managing an absolute return debt fund, the Pinnacle Absolute Return Trust. The fund had strong risk-adjusted returns with a portfolio of individual loans, bonds and fixed income instruments and other private debt funds, and won the Portfolio Management Association of Canada award for performance in 2018. Jon has a law degree from Queen's University, an MBA from the University of Oxford (Brasenose College) and has completed advanced certificates on artificial intelligence and fintech from MIT. Jon is a Chartered Investment Manager and qualified lawyer in Ontario, England & Wales. Jon was Managing Director of an alternative investment firm for Dundee Corporation which focused on developing a portfolio of top global alternative investments. His mandate included researching, acquiring, and managing a portfolio of hedge funds, private equity and private debt in both onshore and offshore jurisdictions, including the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Jon spent considerable focus on insurance and reinsurance products in Bermuda and other offshore locations. Prior to that he was Vice-President and Counsel at Citigroup Global Market, the investment bank in London, U.K. Prior to that he worked as a corporate counsel at a silver circle law firm in London, UK working on hedge funds, private equity, and mezzanine funds in structuring, capital raising, and transactions. Some of his clients included major investment banks, global private equity firms and Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Aside from his leadership role at NordAi, Jon is the owner of a law and consulting firm, Metrix Law P.C. He has been retained as the expert witness on alternative investment funds in a leading legal case related to offshore alternative investments. Jon is an adjunct lecturer in the Finance faculty at Queen's University (2011) and the University of Toronto (2009). He has taught courses on derivatives, hedge funds and broker-dealers, alternative investments, artificial intelligence and finance, finance for global managers, advanced portfolio management, fintech and other executive courses. In terms of volunteer and advisory work, Jon sits on the investment committee of the endowment and pension fund for Victoria University at the University of Toronto. He is a member of the advisory board of the Master of Financial Innovation & Technology program at Queen's University. He is also a member of the Senate of Queen's University and sits on the Library Committee. He was a member of a think-tank with the Federal Reserve of Chicago focusing on risk management, market stability and systemic risk issues from 2014 to 2016. He is also the author of a book published by Bloomberg Press on the 2008 Financial Crisis, entitled "When Prime Brokers Fail" by Bloomberg Press, 2010.
