Jody and Grace Whitmyer spent their careers in the medical industry. Jody was a Rehab Engineer designing unique wheelchairs and devices for the severely disabled, and Grace was an Occupational Therapist. The two of them met while working on a very elaborate wheelchair for a 10 year old girl with cerebral palsy. That gal would later would become the flower girl at their wedding!... Their previous business, Whitmyer Biomechanix, manufactured a line of head support devices that were distributed world-wide. The company even made the "Inc 500" list as one of the fastest growing companies in the US. The company was sold in 2004, and the Whitmyers "semi-retired."
